edenstrauss 3 Report post Posted October 27, 2010 Just to find out more... which one do you build.. 1) sliding door 2) foldable door 3) normal open & close type Sliding door If u have sufficient space inside your toilet, u should go for sliding door becox it's the most durable. But that's if your contractor has given u one that's made of good quality material and a good installation is done. Materials: aluminium frame with PVC, sandblasted glass, etc. Bi-fold door Depending on frequency of usage and materials used, may or may not last. Common complaint is that the entire door comes out of the sliding track at the bottom. When rough handled, might risk dislocating the door. normal open & close type what do u mean by normal open & close type? R u referring to swing doors made of plastic but hollow in between, aluminium frame with PVC panel or tempered glass swing door found in some spas, toilets of newly renovated food courts?? edenstrauss 3 Report post Posted October 28, 2010 I'm not so sure about such swing doors. Becox I haven't done any research on such doors while I was looking around to change my toilet doors this year (few months ago). But if it's to be used in the toilet, which tends to get wet, it's likely that the contractor would supply you with the hollow plastic type. However, such items r already out-dated from what I observed. R u sure you want to use those? It is very light and I'm not sure how ur contractor is going to install for your toilets, say, if you are doing it for your flat. Not sure about the condos & private houses's toilet layouts... varies. For flats, there are grooves (like a small strip of raised platform) outside the toilet/ bathrooms. If you use that swing door, your contractor will have to install the door such that it'll swing towards the inside of the toilet. Takes up alot of space & I believe it's not so nice-looking also. Reminded me of aluminium swing doors for toilets in the 1970s-80s. And there is normally no door frames for toilet doors so I'm not sure how ur contractor is going to drill a hole in the wall (without breaking any of ur toilet wall tiles) to accomodate your swing door's "lock" when u need to close the door using the knob. U can check this out with all ur bedroom doors - u must hv a door frame for such swing doors which are made of solid wood. I saw it once in a makeshift toilet in another country (remoted region), they attached a really "obiang" looking hook to latch up such a door. Have u checked with ur contractor? Or still scouting around? If budget is a constraint, I will recommend that u go for bi-fold doors. should be abt $200+ depending on workmanship.
knightskid 1 Report post Posted October 28, 2010 Just to find out more... which one do you build.. 1) sliding door 2) foldable door 3) normal open & close type i do like sliding door, how much does it cost?
edenstrauss 3 Report post Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) i do like sliding door, how much does it cost? The costs depends on whether the panel is made of PVC, normal glass or tempered glass but framed in aluminium. It'll also depend on ur contractor & your toilet door's dimensions. I got mine from owners of a factory that specialises in aluminium based metal works for doors, grilles, etc. They do not advertise and do not own any showrooms as they handle landed property assignments, commercial & condominium projects. froggy 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2010 Just to find out more... which one do you build.. 1) sliding door 2) foldable door 3) normal open & close type If space permits, I would def go for casement door - this, to me, is the most durable. Second choice - sliding door, again need to check if there is space to slide the door to the other side. Last resort - folding door. I believe there are 2 types - PD door and bifold door. PD door is the slide and swing type, which is a little more durable. I have used both types, and find that for bifold, the door "derail" from the track easily. Material is also very important. My first choice is glass - classy and easy maintenance, esp when washing the toilet. For my toilet, we had to do wooden door which I think is a major mistake. Contractor said that because of the door frame which HDB had built, it is not possible to build a glass door - not sure how true this is now ..
endlssorrow 1 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 but if using glass, i believe the hinge at the 2 side wont last too long.. e weight is too heavy..
froggy 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2010 but if using glass, i believe the hinge at the 2 side wont last too long.. e weight is too heavy.. if glass, need hiinge for glass. cannot use the hdb given ones. also there is some restriction with the door frame done by hdb. that is why end up i can't use glass door, though that's our first choice. edenstrauss 3 Report post Posted November 3, 2010 The price will vary depending on what material is used. tempered/ non-tempered glass/ PVC panels. Aluminiun frame can come in different colours or original, etc. All these will have different pricings. I wouldn't recommend you the swing-slide door (PD door) because it looks & feels very fragile. If you have to keep using ur toilet doors, not advisable. Unless no choice. what's the price range for sliding door? reddust 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 Hi Guys, Seems like you all are missing out something... There is another type of door that is rather lasting, provided that you do not have kids that will bang heavily on it when it is closed. Have u heard of Pd Doors? It is a swing and slide door, I had use it for 4yr plus so far so good, only the latch is having a minor problem. You can check out the web site, I find it really excellent design very impress with it 4 yrs ago till now. It last, easily match the kitchen design, classy, no need to worry about space constraint, etc... Web site : http://www.pddoor.com/ If you like to have a direct contact person, you can leave me a message too. Regards
