Simple Couple With A Simple Home

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Was a quiet 'reader' of the forum so far and gain lots of info from the postings. So just sharing our reno process too.

cheers and thanks for viewing.

DETAILS:

Place: 4rm in Sengkang

Reno duration:

- got keys in march 2010

- dilly-dally got a contractor in end may/June

- dilly-dally more and reno finished in aug/sept

Not advisable to follow my schedule 'cos we took our own sweet time. we weren't in a hurry cos not moving in until after wedding near end of year. But still....i thought we were abit too slow...haha

we also chose a contractor cos we roughly had an idea about how we wanted to do everything. 'Roughly' was about right too...haha..but we all learn along the way. Contractor was recommended by a friend.

Basic groundwork.

the flat already came with ceramic tiles for living and timber strips for bedrooms.

me and the wife wanted to overlay with laminate flooring for living area.

Everything was fine and we booked the laminate and all.....until my eagle-eyed contractor realise that we can't overlay. Cos the bomb shelter door opens outwards (THANKS HDB FOR GREAT PLANNING) into my living room. which means if i overlay, the floor is raised ard 10mm which doesnt allow space for my bomb shelter door to open!!

so in the end had to hack the floor. sad waste of money. (THANK YOU HDB AGAIN!!)

Also hacked away kitchen wall so i place a dining table (cos nowadays 4rm very small....THANK YOU HDB!)

anyway here are some early reno work pics.

Laminate flooring was from Kronotex, a german brand.
