Hi all, considering laminate flooring for my bedrooms. for the past few days, i have been reading up forum and visited the expo showroom for info on laminate flooring.

still cannot decide which to go for. my budge is ard $3 psf to $ psf. Saw a thread on pergo and robina selling at ard these range from 3 local shops. apart from these brands, any good recommendation?

must be at least A/C 3 and water resistant bah...

Hi, i think for your case, laminates for bedroom only is not much of an issue.

1. Not very heavy traffic as compared to living room.

2, Not much eating and drinking, so risk of spilling is lower.

3. Main concern is wet feet after shower after coming out from MBR toilet.

4. Another issue might be not closing windows at night and rain starts to splash in.

It does take extra effort and getting used to for me. (Living and bedroom laminated)

I have thick rugs (use army green towel) to dry my feet before stepping out of toilets.

ok, now for the part on how i choose laminates:

1. Price. (discarded Pergo for Robina, can't feel the difference)

2. Design (had discarded Supreme for Robina)

3. Water resistance - spray water on laminate joints for few days in a row and see the effect. Pour coffee on it and leave overnight to dry. Then try washing it off.

4. Scratch test. Use key, screwdriver, legs of chairs, and of cos i poke it until got a scratch mark.

5. User reviews (found out about Robina from fellow member, Ossify).

Non-exhaustive list of test. Jaskel mentioned before that laminate colour would fade over time with direct sunlight, this one cannot test la...

Things to note:

- Level-ness of floor, not level will creak

- Skirting colour is usually diff from laminate colour, can make a difference to the overall look

- direction of laying. Lay in the direction to make the room look bigger.

- need to take care of laminate, no wet mopping and be careful when moving furniture and electronics. ESP when moving house.

**question on door frame: the contractor told me that normal door frame is flush together with the wall one. if i want a embolded door frame, he said it's artic-frame (dunno spell correct or not). this artic-frame will cost more. true?

Not much progress now as it's still in an early stage. Currently pending the ID to revert me on my kitchen and common bathroom drawing.

Still very headache where to find carpenter for my carpentry work. The ID's quote for carpentry freaking exp. The other contractor which i have shortlisted doesn't want to do my carpentry business unless i let him do the whole unit. -_-!

- Overhaul (see above posts for the task list) + electrical work = approx $35k

- Free gifts: bathroom sink X2, WC X2, shower set X2, accessories X2, kitchen sink, hob and hood, free false ceiling and L-Box @ living room, dining room, foyer area and passage way.

- caprentry (3 wardrobe, 2 tv console, 2 feature wall) is top up of another approx $8k

- workmanship unknown. not many reviews on workmanship in renotalk.

- hdb licensed

Contractor

- Overhaul (see above posts for the task list) + electrical work + carpentry = approx $38k

- good review about his work attitude and workmanship. but he has not replied me since my last proposed quote of $33k for everything.

As of now, we are thinking of engaging the ID for overhaul, then outsourced the carpentry work (except kitchen cabinet as it's in the ID's package) to other parties. What do you guys think? Wise choice?

After having my mother-in-law and mother coming over to my rented place to stay and baby-sit my baby boy, i have decided that i need one VERY important thing in my new house.

I have called the IDs and contractors to re-design my floorplan. Thrash the idea of big mastrbd room. I want 4 rooms now. But the problem lies here. How may i going to squeeze things into my masterbd room with the new layout...

I have seen Thattrader's thread and visited his place last weekend with Ossify. He did a very good layout plan for his 5i unit. Will try to emulate his ideas into mine.

Good news. My property agent just told me that the owner is moving out on 16-Nov-10. That means i can start my reno earlier!!! woohooo!
