dexufto 5 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Just got back from overseas... Lost track of things that had been done for the renovation during the days I'm away... Some updates... Door hacked for MBR to Shower room... Half of the wall between Shower room and Toilet hacked away Such a familar sight I'm envious of your clean look from your new entrance. I had a vertical sewage pipe obstructing my entrance. Good progress, keep the pics coming.

Good progress, keep the pics coming. Firstly, apologies for the lack of updates... Have been scrambling around to get the needed reno items, furnitures and mattress... Thanks dex for the kind comments hee... I really hope I can look back at my reno with joy like you do yours... Tiling for toilet and kitchen and plastering for the whole house seemed to be completed for the time being... I think there was some mis-comm with my contractor for the kitchen cabinet... He did the old-school cement with tile style for me... Haiz... Not sure how to rectify it... Here are some pics... Finally started on electric wiring today and air-con tomorrow... Did anyone of you guys requested for the BCA license from the installers when you're installing the steel bracket? Edited December 27, 2010 by istel

Did anyone of you guys requested for the BCA license from the installers when you're installing the steel bracket? you need to check with ur contractor is this the correct concrete support kitchen cabinet u asked him to do? good and bad points about kitchen cabinet using concrete support. advantages it will outlast any plywood kitchen cabinet, disadvantages it looks dated in design.... if that is not what u wanted, then better tell the contractor to tear down the entire thing, leaving only the concrete base and make wooden plywood kitchen cabinet, contractor may or may not charge u for the demolition and wastage.... Wah bro, your reply is always fast and furious hee... Problem here is the contractor is "kaki lang" so it's going to be a little embarassing for both parties if this incident gets out of hand. I spoke to the kitchen cabinet sub-contractor and he said that he could cover the cement/concrete base with wood to cover up... Any cons with that? Cheers

That's one big factor we considered about actually before reno. However, as we don't have time to jaga the reno so decided to go with someone close... Want to cover the base cause of aesthetic issues :/ Planning hazel brown for the cabinet's laminate

Want to cover the base cause of aesthetic issues :/ Planning hazel brown for the cabinet's laminate I did see one of the project did by my contractor Rick, have a concrete support below the solid top surface for the sink area. On the outside you cannot see any differ as using the wooden cabinet. According to him,the advantage is that it will not rot as there is no wooden ply on the top, bottom and sides except the doors. The ending of the sink ( L shape kitchen) is also protected by concrete before the normal wood laminate ending. I never see any post on this type of design in this forum, maybe there is but I never see it. Only make sure the concrete is slightly lower than the normal height. Actually, the thinkness of the solid surface is about 2 cm I think, so your rectification should look ok.

Based on the photo, it should be ok to do the recification, I not sure whether you need to increase the base slightly so as the cabinet front part can sit.
