Vasthu Satha?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased an apartment which was previously owned by an Indian Catholic.

I noticed that at the top of every door frame, there is a nail, about 7cm-8cm in length embedded at the top right hand side of each doorframe. (on top of the door frame). I did consider if it was for hanging things out of reach of children.. but the nail is door frame is about 2.3m and the golden nail is embedded right at the top top of the frame, which would make hanging things even difficult for adults.

I was wondering why the nail was there, and tried doing some research on Catholic beliefs/Vasthu (as the previous owner was an Indian), but to no avail.

Any explanation why there's a nail on each and every doorframe of the apartment?

hey booties..

I think the nail is there to protect them from evil spirits? i'm not sure i'm just basing it on something a hindu fren of mine had told me years ago. I was walking behind my fren when i noticed that a nail was sticking out of the top of her long braid! so i asked her why she kept a nail there and she said that they believe that the nail will keep evil spirits away from them.

but the ex owners were catholic.. so i'm not sure if they will have the same beliefs..

Hi Yummy,

yeah.. i don't think that catholics belief in evil spirits. but i'm still quite puzzled. the other question is, can i remove it if thats the case? or is there some rights/ ritual i need to perform prior to removing those nails. the nails are found on each and every door frame. main door, masterbedroom door, guest room door...

You should just go ahead and remove it. I'm catholic and we do belief in God and in Satan - Ying Yang / Good Evil.

Being Indian Catholic myself I am unfamiliar with this practice. My relatives are Hindu and when my wifey was expecting our kids, my aunt asked me to place a pen knife / nail or a sharp object in my wifey's handbag to ward off evil / pontianak type creatures .... seriously. So I'm not sure if this has any connnection.

so you don't think this has anything to do with Vasthu? or Indian Geomancy?

There was this Indian movie of a group of villagers who manufactured a bullet in gold to kill a vampire. Do you think you'll like to check with the priests from any roman catholic church?

Also, to check with FS masters what the nail at the door there denotes in our chinese culture. I do not think they nail it there jux for nailing it there at the door.

Depending on culture, practices vary. Like in the case of chinese, our pregnant ladies here were told to avoid holding anything sharp as it might "disfigure" the babies in the womb.

Indian geomency - do u think u could check with any of the Indian geomencers in Singapore? Can just call them up, no harm trying. Or what about asking the priests in hindu temples? U can just call up their temples without visiting. I'm sure they might know what those nails denote.

To be honest I don't know. I'm Indian and I use Chinese Geomancy and it has cost me a fortune in terms of products...but the results are there.

I don't think there is any harm in removing. Is there any chance of you getting hold of the previous owners? Maybe theycan enlighten you?

Off topic but everytiime I pop around the shop to ask for some advice, one of the sales people will try to sell me a product that will enhance my financial life, benefactors etc. Cheap is ok but these products are 10's of K. I said no and enough.

Now am looking for a reliable FSM to advice on:

1. Start of reno

2. Symbolic move in date

3. Actual move in date

4. Auspicious time to re-instate some FS itemsthat I currently have in my flat to my new place (for this I guess I will have to go back and ask them :curse: )

thanks all for the comments and suggestions.

personally, i'm not a religious person. However, i always try to thread on the safe side. i mean, why find trouble if trouble doesn't find you right?

moreover, speaking about feng shui and geomancy.. i'm still a little skeptical. cos i've seen feng shui shops go out of business. etc etc.

slightly worried about getting an indian geomancer's reading/ advise, might cost me a bomb.

any idea how do they charge for such services? or if there are even services just for 'general consultation'?

Did u notice the nails on the door frames when u were in the midst of viewing & wanting to buy the house? Or did u notice it only after u bought & shifted into the premises?

Nope, I'm not advising you to pay & consult Indian geomencers. And the local FS masters here might not be aware of cross-cultural practices. So, it might just end up nowhere if you jux wanted to know the reason for the nails driven into the door frames. I was just wondering if you could casually call up & ask those Indian geomencers.

I would suggest that you just call up any Indian temple & have a casual chat with their office; I'm sure they won't turn you away if they know something about the nail being embedded into the door frames. And, you could also check with the catholic priests, but in my thoughts, preferrably, with those European Fathers becox if it is anything amounting to pagan practices, they will have a better grasp of the culture in view of their background.

An Indonesian acquiatence whose a Roman Catholic, explained to me that the nail embedded in the door frame may be used to keep evil forces out of all the rooms and this could be a pagan practice that came from the Latin American region. Not sure what he's said is true becox only the owners themselves would have the answer as to why they did it.

But U're prudent to think that you'll need to know the reason before arriving at a decision how to proceed from here.

My hubby's pakistani client bought a condo that had a bagua with a scroll-like gadget placed outside the windows of one of the rooms. He told us that he left it there (for the past 6 years) & didn't want to remove it becox he's not sure what effect it'll have on his family whose staying in there.

pagan practices huh...

thats an alternate view. i never really thought about it. i'm not religious or superstitious (I think), so leaving it there doesn't really bother me too much, considering its quite discreet.

but then, of course if there might be some negative connotations to it, i rather play it safe. other than that, think i'd just leave it there, considering most pple tend to think that its just for 'protection' and i guess there's no harm about more protection.

Hey, do u think it's a good idea to call up wayonnet & simply ask any of their sales consultants if they have any idea if a nail in all the door frames would mean anything bad from the fengshui perspective?

I'm suggesting this becox there is no harm in trying to play extra safe... if u get what I mean. Sometimes out of good will, their staff could offer abit of advice if it's within their knowledge. Just call them & ask. see if U could get anything constructive out of them.

Hello Booties, just to let you aware of a fable which has been deep rooted in my mind since day one I read across it when I was in primary school, called father & son selling a donkey:

- Invert donkey, tie its legs onto wooden pole, father & son each shoulder one end, walking from home toward market.

- A stranger saw and said: what a waste, why don't let son ride on top of donkey? They follow suit and walking toward market.

- While walking, a passer by, commented: what a unfilial son, should let father rides on top! They exchanged.

- Along the way, another passer by: Why don't 2 of you ride on top? They follow.

You know what happened? Before they could reach market, donkey collasped & died, they cried, all passers by laughed and said bye bye.

Hi bepgof,

Care to make it plain & simple instead of telling looooooooooong stories?

I'm "brain-dead" already from clearing a mailbox full of messages - so need u to enlighten me on the message told in ur story about donkey & his owners... zz

But what will you do if you're in booties' shoes - i.e. pertaining to those nails found embedded in all ur door frames?
