Sipderweb 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2010 In the mid of reno now. Today the electrician was on site giving us a quote and we found a trail of white ants.....THis wall is located outside our main unit, next to the main gate and the powerbox is sitting there. The electrician says it's OK just to leave the white ants cos they will not crawl out from there cos they do not like to be exposed to the light - thus they stay inside the powerbox. Questions: will these creepy crawlies extend their territory and decide to venture further into my house? Electrician said that once we allow lights in (exposed the area) the termites will die off. Do we need to call in the pest control experts? TIA

Warrior88 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2010 Termites gain access to our home through the walls. They like moist and dark areas. Just call http://www.rentokil-initial.com/ .... think about $120. per visit. They will screen your whole house and sprinkle some powder. Termites will carry this powder to their nest and kill the whole colony. For landed property, this is a must before any reno.

therat 18 Report post Posted October 7, 2010 if u plan to have any wood furniture inside your house. Better do it first before move any wood related thing in. Once termites 'fall in love' with your furniture. U need to sent (aka thrown) the furniture away b'coz cannot separate them one.
maintenance boy 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2010 The powder treatment re so call spot treatment where small scale or nest termite were suspectedbut it will deactivate thhat trail. and if is a large colony it won't be effective and they will soon buid a new trail. But just to comfirm, what kind of house/home are you staying in?And is it in the groud floor? If its juz a small trail, should be ok,but if you re staying on those ground level type of house, better not take termites problem lightly, check those surrounding as termites can cause alot of problem and that i've saw before.can even damage you electrical thingy and makes things goes haywire causing alot of problem/damages. Sipderweb 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2010 It's a landed. We found the trail at our main gate wall (entrance to our house, into the car porch). My fear is the possibility of a bigger colony somewhere nearby or even at our neighbouring units. Will be getting the pest control companies in for their assessment. So far, hacking work is completed at ground floor - living/dinning/kitchen/backyard/car porch. Nothing discovered. We are keeping the existing parquet from staircase upwards. Hopefully, it's just a small scale of these creepy crawlies. Keeping my fingers crossed.

For landed, it is also wise before you pen the agreement to get this buster along to access your damage, especially older ones. Control will start from the gound right up to your ceiling. Termites can bring down your house, deco, furnitures.... tiny but scary
maintenance boy 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2010 Since its landed, pls check the surrounding including the soil area.since u already found the trail and already called the pest control, ask them to trace the trail to any possibility area that re visible. If you re comfortable with the so call spot treatment,by all means go ahead, but do keep a look out on nearby areas few days/weeks after its done(usually they will form new trail if it is not eliminated). But if its quite a bad and u saw some in tne soil, try to do a soil treatment. How old is your house or that building?
Sipderweb 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 The ppty is appx 18yrs old. Managed to arrange appointment with 1 pestbuster over last weekend. The trail was dry up since, after the electrican disrupt it. Due to the hacking work done, the petbuster could not detect any trail or present of the termites. Accordingly to him, likely the termites will pay my neighbours a visit. He was at the site for an hour+, explaining to us details of termites, care that we need to pay attention to etc. He recommended no actions on our side as yet, but we are to monitor the situation closely after we move in and to contact him if required. After spending his time with us, he did not even charge us for his trip made. Nice chap we've met.
maintenance boy 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 Forgotten to tell you,if u saw the trail, pls do not disrupt it as they will leave that trail. But usually, iif its a large colony, they will build a new 'mrt track' nearby soon enough.Pls monitor it regularly the surrounding area nearby.
