newSAHM 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2010 Hi, I also have a 18 month baby, so because of him, I went around the whole island to search for a good and cheap platform bed. The bed has to be low enough so with the mattress the height will still be low. I found the right bed at Xclusive at Kallang. In fact that shop has the most platform bed among all that I visited. Because my budget is quite tight and I told the saleman (Mr Quinn) honestly my budget, he reduced the price to suit my budget which was very kind of him. I brought my bb along and all the other staff were very nice and helped me looked after my bb. :-) I then went on to buy a 7 inch full latex mattress from Omazz at Park Mall, because I am allergic to dust mites and my bb has had runny nose often. So suspected that he inherited the allergy from me. :-( As for your question about pregnancy. Well, it does not really matter so much as to the height of the bed as much as whether you have something to grab to help yourself up from bed. When I was pregnant I slept on a scan teak bed which is already very high + my mattress was like 12 inches!! and I had a **** of a time trying to get out of bed. By right if the height of bed is high then easier to get out but my experience was not like that at all. I suppose if the bed is low enough, you could roll down and then kneel on the floor and then get up that way which is easier for heavily pregnant woman. The bed I bought is wrapped in fabic and I suppose it is more lasting than PU ba.. There are few colors to choose from and the bed is made in Malaysia with shorter leadtime. Frankly speaking, I won't buy anything that is made in China and then got to ship over here. There are a lot of complains on other posts. Hope this bit helps your bed buying. :-) Hi Jaydenmom Thank u so so much for posting the above details, gave me great insight....If my calculation is right, both of us have little baby calf....Your baby boy also born in the year of cow? Sigh nowadays babies seems to have more allergies...My baby girl's skin also quite sensitive.... just like me....Do u mind sharing how much u paid for the bed n mattess? Thanx for reassuring me that low bed is not going to an issue during pregnancy... Ya I also have my reservations about things made in China....Gd to know that the beds are made in Malaysia....But will still go to both places to do a comparison.... Once again can't thank you enough for your advice....So is Jayden in childcare yet?

OIC, I guess not to worry coz ever since quite a number of forumers bought stuff from them as you said and there is no negative reviews then should be ok.... Less than 1K is very reasonable.... Btw I know I am a bit off topic but did u hire ID or contractor for your house reno?? Care to share? Many thanx in advance!!
bepgof 20 Report post Posted September 27, 2010 (edited) Just to share abt this platform bed cocept. In 1992, I asked my brother(carpeter)to build a nyatoh wood platform over the whole mbr (4 inch height), one whole row of low cabinet below the panel widows, dress table, WR all bulit on top of this platform. We just put mattress on top of platform. We were "young" so do have this "knee" problem. Both babies were like to crawl over the platform and bed. After after 8 yrs later, we bought a "4 leg" bed frame & put on top of the platform, "earlier" to get down from the bed! Hi bepgof, I have exactly the same platform bed concept for my MRB of my BTO new flat which I will be collecting my keys 2nd Quarter next year. The difference is that instead of nyatoh wood platform, I plan to do laminated platform and that just put my bed on the platform. I, too, like you, plan to do bulid-in row of cabinet below the panel windows all built on top of this platform. Based on your experience, is it a good concept? I went to their showroom on last Sat and their platform bedframe all quote above $1300 min.

After raise up 4 inch, window become relatively lower down, so kept grille locked. - Babies like to crawl up/down platform and bed - Wood strank and surface scratches after some yrs. - We put a board with cushsion as "bed head" when lay 6 inch thick dunlop directly onto platform. - Only after few yrs later change pattern - get a bed with 4 legs, put on top of platform. ibenma 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2010 We were at IFC two weeks ago n saw a platform bed frame design that we like....Erm it is really low with no legs and on one side of the bed it has a panel and the headrest another panel. It seems really cozy n comfortable as it looks like we can lean against the panel and chill...As our 10 mth old is currently sleeping with us on our "high" bed, hence for our new house we plan to get a low platform like the above mentioned. It is fabric wrapped. The following are my concerns: 1. Is fabric wrapped bed frame very hard to clean or maintain? Does it get dusty very easily?? BUT if wrap with PVC will it peel very fast? 2. If I were to become pregnant with my second child will it be difficult for me to get in and out of bed? (Hopefully someone can share their experience or their wife's experience.) 3. Can anyone share on what kind of bedframes did u get if your child is co sleeping with u? 4. Where is a good place to shop for platform bedframes? Is it better to buy or custom make? Thanx so much in advance for your replies! it is not easy to find the suitable children's furniture in FM,IMM or IFC. I would suggest you to visit some children furniture store/shop to take a actual look at your desired model or style. for children, most important thing is safe and GREEN. maybe you can visit IBENMA located in peninsula shopping centre to get some ideas. they are specialized in children furniture and price is affordable also.
