I did face some problems on the workmanship of the door subcontractor, after some rectification, the paint work is improved. They initially spray only a few coats, which ended up very uneven and un-uniform; can see the wood gains, they try to touch up by using brush, it does not help because it create more paint lines that is difference from paint that is spray; nevertheless they are able to rectified by spraying three more coats on the site. Beside the paint work, there are other minor installation defects but I have accepted it as they are not obvious.....

I was surprised that this door sub-contractor was used by some famous ID companies such as U........ with this type of workmanship. Must complaint to have it done properly... I do not know do other forumers have this problem or not.

Kelvin comes down to see the problem and quickly arrange the door subcontractor to rectify the next day.

My hob and hood also from Ellane

I'm using the same hood as you.

How much they quote you.

As for the hod, I get a 3 burner stainless steel type.

A tips from the Ellane service guy.

For the hood, there are 4 container , right?

put some water inside. So when , oil was collected. You can just throw away the water + oil out easily. The container will not get oily easily

My contractor install my hood wrongly. Not 100% wrong but still wrong.

The Ellane service guy come down and saw my hood.

1st question from him. Who install for you. I reply my contractor.

He say.. wrong liao la. Do you still have the cover?

There is a round cover on the top of the hood. My contractor go and remove it. And luckily they didn't throw away and I keep everything that left behind)

Then while he do the correction, he explain to me.. that round cover is for those round suction that outlet is at the outside the flat one. Unless you had the suction like coffee shop.

Or else don't need to remove it.

And others like..

these also need to remove.

Ai yo, they didn't screw for you. Later you turn on the hood and engine keep turning, hood might move outward and fall on you.

etc etc

Then he polish my hood until mei mei but feel so bad that he cut his finger when doing the polishing.

Hi therat

You are right, most of the cabinet contractor does not use the cover to cover the hole on top. Mine also does not cover, now waiting the cabinet guy to do the covering.

If the hole is not covered, although the hole will be partly covered by the cabinet, but the oily air will flow into the cabinet and causes the cabinet to be oily and in long run, the heat from the oily air will spoil the cabinet. I have taken picture of the cover, I have just edited and post it below.

The grey one is used to cover the hole on top. The black one is used to connect the ducting so as to channel the oily air to outside of the house for private properties but cannot be used in the HDB.

Thanks for reminding me.

How to check the cabinet doors tight or not:

1. Gently tap on the corner that is opposite the hinges of door when the door is closed with your index finger

2. If there is a vibration and banging sound (knocking sound between the door and the cabinets), then the door is not tight.

3. There should be minimum vibration and sound when you tap the corner of the doors.

Adjusting the hinges:

Hi yeo, good tips on the chk of door tightness. Oo, did u go for soft close hinge? Interesting when we go ikea and slam it without making noise and may protect the door :sport-smiley-004: Duno why this is popular only quite recently or perhaps sgp is lagging in terms of such technology.

How's your renov gg, if left your stove then should be v near towards completion. Cheers!

It is the soft close type hinge. My renovation is waiting for the contractors to do some rectifications on the wall tile that is broken by the cabinet contractor and the installation of the glass doors and the hood cover. The wooden doors is already installed but need to adjust the tightness of some doors. It is progressing very slow..... :furious:

Stress Test on the cabinet drawers

I have come across someone's blog on his renovation, this is how he do the stress test on the cabinet drawers:

1. Put the wieight of 21kg inside the drawer

2. See whether the drawer slide smoothly or not.

3. Further increase the weight to 30kgs o more and test the smoothness of the sliding drawers.

Advantages:

It can check the alignment of the drawer tracks and the workmanship of the cabinet contractor. Furthermore, it can check any parts is missing during installation.

But I never do it........

Sliding Kitchen Door Defects

Beside the paint problem that I have discussed, this is the two defects that are not so obvious that I have accepted. Bo piah ah :bangwall: ...

1. The end of the sliding door track cover is not straigth at all.

img2604.jpg

2. The bottom of the door.

Actually the door side must be flat, however, during the installation of the door, the roller at the bottom is not installed properly and furthermore, I think the door is made too small in term of width. The bottom of the both side of the door cracked. As a result, they cut a slot at both sides to let the roller can slide.

Before rectification

Right side:

Left side:

After rectification:

:furious: The worst part is the contractor Kelven tell me is always done like that. Try to "smoke" me.

Kitchen Cabinet

Last Friday, the cabinet contractor (I think he is the boss) came to install the glass doors and hood cover.

During the installation, he found that one of the wooden door has problem; wobble or the thickness is different compared with other doors.

Without thinking, he removes the door and brings back to the factory to redo. Very automatic! :D

Before the glass doors installation

After the glass doors installation

Overall: Good workmansip but very slow and expensive (should try to go direct)

Senz - Kelvin

Price : Not the best in town, slightly higher than the average.

Sub-contractors : Some good, some bad ... even now the Al door is not smoothly after some uses; still stuck by the rivets even after the recfication done.

See the T-blog for more details on the sub-contractors.

Progress of work : Slow

Rectification of work : Slow... sometimes, he himself done it.... :(

Design : No comment as I design myself.

Overall : Ok, not the best, quite new in this area.
