Fixed Glass Panel For Kitchen

I have a question on fixed glass panel. I intend to open my kitchen slightly (cos it's quite dark) by installing a half height fixed glass panel in my kitchen. Whats the pros and cons on doing so ? Would the glass shatter if the kitchen becomes too hot ? Also, i may need to install a kitchen door to separate kitchen from dining area, other than a glass door, is there any other types of doors which would be suitable to match the fixed glass panel ?

I'm concerned about safety so i would prefer not to have a glass door if possible.
