Kitchen Reno

Recommended Posts

Finally got a 2-week period where I am the only one at home. Gonna get some work done on the 30-plus year old kitchen.

In the midst of meeting up with different contractors...and learning things.

Here's something that I am getting conflicting answers. The kitchen floor tiles are the original ones.

1st contractor immediately say do overlay.

2nd contractor use his hand to knock here and there and say got hollow. Not advisable to overlay as next time will have problem.

3rd contractor also knock here and there and say got hollow. But he think it is ok to overlay, will not crack or pop up.

Who to believe?

Here's something that I am getting conflicting answers. The kitchen floor tiles are the original ones.

1st contractor immediately say do overlay. Not his house, that's why he suggest that! Cos is troublesome to do hacking esp if your house is located at crowed district.

2nd contractor use his hand to knock here and there and say got hollow. Not advisable to overlay as next time will have problem. Sound more like a responsible contractor.

3rd contractor also knock here and there and say got hollow. But he think it is ok to overlay, will not crack or pop up. Again, not his kitchen. that's why he suggest that!

Who to believe? For a 30-plus year old kitchen, if you are changing floor tile, best to hack & re-do. Over-lay is more for newer flat with good workmanship (lousy workmanship not included!)
