t_cheong 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Hi guys, just wondering what are the considerations if i'm gonna change the squating w/c to a sitting w/c. Will I need to redo the piping / flooring?
leechaorui 2 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 Hi guys, just wondering what are the considerations if i'm gonna change the squating w/c to a sitting w/c. Will I need to redo the piping / flooring? In general, for home use I think the sit type of toilet bowl is okay and comfortable. The squat type is more useful for public use and is not as beautiful as the sit type. Since there is no body contact with the WC bowl, it is more hygienic. I find that many of the younger children and older folks prefer the squat type of toilet bowl. However, it can be quite tiring on the legs if one squat for some time.
bepgof 20 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, just wondering what are the considerations if i'm gonna change the squating w/c to a sitting w/c. Will I need to redo the piping / flooring? For simplicity, make a hole in centre of the plastic chair, cut short the legs, put on top of squating w/c then can sit liao. For complicated one, hack/remove squat/pipe/"reservior", put hasket, put sitting w/c in, connect pipe, patch here & there, then can use liao. blursotong 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 question....for the old type of toilet, there's no 'hole' in the floor to drain water away. what do the contractor do? bepgof 20 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 question....for the old type of toilet, there's no 'hole' in the floor to drain water away. what do the contractor do? The "hole" go to tiolet of yr neigbour below in "U" form. Yr tiolet ceiling also got "U" which link to yr upper neghbour right? After hacking, contractor has to put a gasket into the "hole" then put the sitting w/c on top.
alvinloo 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 Another thing to take note is the distance from the edge of the hole to the back of the wall. Usually should be 10 inches. So you'll need to make sure you choose the correct toilet bowl. Or just get the contractor to provide. And when the contractor hack away the existing squat toilet, cement will be used to cover the squat hole before placing the sit type. Usually the sit type can't "cover" the affected flooring, so you'll have to decide whether you have any spare tiles to cover them, if not it'll have to be left as cement. Also note that for squat type, the flooring is usually tapered towards the squat bowl, meaning any splashes previously, it's supposed to flow to the centre. So with the sit type, if you didn't redo the tiles, there might be water puddles accumulating at the edges of the (new sit-type) toilet bowl base, which you'll have to periodically sweep them away. blursotong 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 Sorry I wasn't clear.... Say after the sitting w/c is in place, and if I wash the toilet floor, where the water go since unlike the new toilets, there's a separate hole for the ater to flow? Washing water goes to floor trap, floor trap link to stack, water flow down. http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6941/57552432.jpg Can get PUB's drawings here: http://www.pub.gov.sg/general/code/pages/s...rydrawings.aspx Edited August 25, 2010 by bepgof
alvinloo 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 I think it's thereabouts for the conversion by a contractor, including providing the toilet bowl (not branded type, of course). If you want to DIY, will depend how much you buy your toilet bowl, need to buy cement, a very strong hammer? Probably some face mask and gloves. Not sure how much smelly stuff might be accumulated over the years at those hard to reach places?
