Why dont u invest in a proper HTS than a soundbar which probably produce low standard audio & has no resale value?

Kindly search this forum about Soundbar deficiencies. Ive done a lot of fieldwork on this device.

One word - Crap.

Cheers

actually, higher end AV eqpt has oso no resale value...

I wonder what gave u the idea.

If u possess the older B&W DM series or the DefTech CLR series, you'll be surprised what people

will pay for it. Sad to say, even Bose has good resale value.

Cheers

i am not sure what constitutes a "good resale value"... 30%? 50%? or 80% of the sticker price? I have once bot a BOSE lifestyle 12 system for 3k+. and now i dun think its worth $200 at all. BOSE stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment.... lolz....there was some internet site that dissects the jewel cube speaker, only to find papercone drivers that is made in china, high price to pay for something that is not even made in US? i would think so....

even focal JMLab grande utopia (their drivers are handcrafted in France under the most tight security) that cost an arm or leg can hardly fetch any decent amount.... 有价没市...no use oso... ;p

anyway, TS mentioned is for general audio "got-sound-can-liao" quality when playback DVDs, not for critical listening. as long as one trust his ears, be comfy with the budget, there's no regrets...

Yep. If he has a budget of $800 to burn for "got-sound-can-liao" quality, then by all means go for it. Im merely advising him

against buying a soundbar.

Eric, thanks for sharing your experience with soundbar. It only confirmed why I change from a "I am ok with soundbar" to a reasonable HT system. vicenzo has been fantastic in helping me along this line. Although I have yet to get my HT system (will do it soon), I learn quite abit and really convince that HT system is better. of cos if u want to just have simple setup, no one could stop you from a soundbar.

Hi all thks for the comments...ya..sound bar quality is really not that fantastic...

just went courts and was memerized by philip HTS 5560...

is only $699!

blu ray player with power 1000rms.....

the sound is gd!

my reason for choosing soundbar is they are neat.......whereas HTS got 5 speakers....

very messy with wires all over...

sighs .....in real dilemma.....

Bluray player is just a device to play BR, DVD etc. It has nothing to do with rms. We use WATT (W) to measure power.

Until today, no maker of soundbar has ever convincingly tell me how does a soundbar emit audio of a rear speaker.

Having a 5.1 system is not messy. There's plenty of ways to conceal cables.

But if youre convince soundbar is the way to go for u, all the best.

cheers

Hi Eric, have you got your soundbar? I juz got my Philips HTS5120/98 at MEGA Discount store together with LG 42LE5500 LED Full HDTV. I think u r rite in choosing a soundbar vs a 5.1 HTS, wiring can be an issue & u will need to work closely with yur contractor if u wanna conceal the wires esp. with rear surround.

I am not a sound fanatic therefore a system which provides me a good enough sound system on movies playback is suffice, of coz uncomparable with Bose, O&L etc...

Hey, I'm also looking for a Philips HTS5120 / HTS6120 Soundbar. How much did you pay for it @ MEGA D.S.? I saw the HTS6120 @ MEGATEX 2010 selling for $799. Do let me know your review of the product too. Thanks!

Anyway, I agreed that a Soundbar can NEVER match a true HTS. I think budget, wiring and number of speakers are the main keys for the choice.

Is it true that these soundbars can't play DVDs from the pirates? Mine still in the box, so haven't test it out.

No such thing. Only the recording format, quality issues. Of course, reader must, in the first place able to read the supported format. Blu-ray is the most tokong, can read all now, not too sure what new patterns will come out in near future.
