is this true? my contractor says i have no choice but to do kitchen floor tiles as well cos i wanna do kitchen wall tiles. He says when i hack the wall tiles, the floor tiles will be damaged and cause water leakage??

It sounds like it could work both ways.

But honestly i think if your contractor is careful enough he should be able to avoid damaging your floor tiles.

However, from the rough hacking and vibrations from the power jack, hairline cracks may appear on the tiles closer to the walls.

Just my opinion.

This is partly true. Coz hacking pple are rough pple, u tell them hack, they'll just wack. So if u asked them to take care of the floor, chances are, they'll heck care, especially the part where the wall meets the floor.. critical. Contractor usually don't want to be held responsible if they accidentally hurt the floor. If acidents happens, who pays for this potentially -ve profit margin work? 99% contractor will tell u hack everything.

coz the cement inside is not properly filled. There's air pocket inside... just like when u choose water melon, u hit and hear the sound... long term 10-20yrs, these potentially may pop.

When the tiler install the tiles, they did not butter the whole tile with cement or adhesive. Or it could be that the tile has debond from the wall. In no time, the tile will pop out.

i would say, it depends on the contractor. during reno i have this 2 pieces of ceramic toilet-paper holder and soapholder i requested him to remove w/o hurting the surround wall tiles, he gotten his guys to hack and remove only the two legacies and patch back nicely with new tiles...

also as i was retaining my bath/wc tiles, he instructed his demo team to hack until few inches away where the old bifold doors were, then the tilers manually chisel off the remaining tiles w/o hurting anything else.

so if the contractor want fast and easy work and good money, he will advise u to tear down everything.
