Thanks for posting this BTU write-up for aircons.

My dad is crazy about BTUs for aircons in all his homes. He would go on a huge theory of BTUs for his own aircons, which he would normally have 2 to 3 units for his living rooms, including dining areas.

But which brand would u recommend? I always hear of leakages from aircon & those happenings r a great nightmare! My chinese sinseh's clinic (TCM) had 3 units of LG aircons but they were problematic since installation.

I'm using Fujitsu at home, also 3 units and they r more than 15 years old. The plastic covering has already turned yellow but still working well even though they take quite sometime to cool the room.

Any words of advice? Just in case they go dead one day, then I could figure out which brand to go for. :D

Thanks in advance! :)

LG have a bad reputation of aircons... never touch them even it's 50% cheaper than other makes.

get those aircon company to check your a/c pressure and top up gas if necessary. for aircons that has been running for few years w/o topping up, maybe good to totally evacuate the refrigerant gas and refill with fresh ones.

aircon coolant has a mix of refrigerant and compressor oil designed to lubricate the compressor. as time goes by the lubricant loses its functions, and this may result in compressor working noisier and harder.

when my parent's house mitsubishi heavy industries (MHI) R22 compressor died after 15yrs (this is pure MIJ), i replaced with toshiba-carrier inverter ones, and it's able to reuse back the existing copper piping (originally designed for R22 system) w/o problems of leakage or reduced cooling efficiency.

regardless of which brands, choose the ones like mitsubishi/panasonic/daikin/toshiba and u shd be safe with them.

ok thanks for your advice.

But what is pure MIJ ?

toshiba-carrier inverter: any difference with those normal aircons that r mounted on the wall?

I saw a neighbour mount up another type that's attached to the windows & lets off really hot exhaust air, can feel the hot air flushing out through the machine when we walk along the corridoor.

MIJ = Made In Japan :D

those window-mounted aircons are designed to make use of existing sliding windows with minimum hassle of hacking/drilling/sawing....

but not sure if it's allowed, as u've pointed out, the hot air is discharged to the common corridor area where there is human traffic.
