wolflet 1 Report post Posted July 11, 2010 if u have the intention of disregarding age old beliefs and do reno during this period. then there is nothing that is needed to observe. just pretend that it is any other period. anyway, the belief is only for STARTING of renovation during the 7th mth. if u start on the last day of 6th mth and the works carry thru the 7th mth, its perfectly fine Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If you do, go ahead. Having 9 bosses sitting in a row, you the last. Passing a WHITE paper from the 1st CEO says it is Black, CFO next to him, say BLACK. COO says BLACK, GM also BLACK.....your turn as a deparmental head, says BLACK or WHITE? Very struggling right ! From history's view, for survival and to stay within comfort zone, particularly in a community, human tends to "sing the same song" over issues like this without really looking at ones' own conscience & truth, always having "collective beliefs" & "collective actions", this forms the "social pressure or norms" in the community. I must admit, to comply norms is easy, to go against norms really needs "courage", if can find supporters is the best. Many yrs back, I witnessed a pair of christians declared husband & wife, in church, in 7th month, just to save money. During dinner, they received "special eyes" looking at bride's stomach. Some invited guess did not even turn up. Anyway, this couple've "prepared" such, so everythings swee swee, the children now already call me uncle. We are living in a multi-races society with many religious beliefs, this "pressure" is not that obvious. Back to your questions: I observed most of reno workers are Malaysians & they've to make a living too, if there're jobs for them in 7th months, still work!. But most chinese, due to this "pressure", avoid this & that, but situating is on the "improving" - even got fsms "standup" and declare moving in 7th month is ok. I'm sure you will be able to find IDs and contractors who will work through the 7th month. When I renovated my flat about 3-4 years ago, I started the renovations during the 7th month without any observances whatsoever because I do not believe in such things. My ID did not have a problem with the start date and schedule and the renovations went ahead smoothly.
