Moroccan/indian Inspired Home Decor

Recommended Posts

hey all,

I'm new to renotalk.. joined as my parents are rebuilding the front extension of our inter-terrace house, and after 20 plus years of having a bland living room, i'm taking charge and have decided to incorporate the rich, sultry colours of India/Mororro to give that cosy look.

I'm wondering if anyone has gone down this path before? I've been seeing very sleek, contemporary themes here, which are really great, but don't suit my family's personality. I'm looking at warm yellow, rich maroon coloured walls, lots of intricately designed cushions, ornate dark wood furniture, mirrored/stain glass light hangings etc.

However, i'm clueless on the ceiling lights, e.g. downlights- yellow or white? White would be too stark, and yellow wouldn't be suitable for the times we want to sit and read there. What about ceiling fans? How would i incorporate that? Also, the flooring is an issue. I was thinking neutral homogeneous tiles, with a mosaic border or something. Any suggestions please?

I've tried googling but if anyone has any resources that you could point me to, i'd be really grateful. :)

Many thanks!

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

A matte marble/stone (like) floor would look good, laid in a brick like pattern, not the usual grid pattern we see today.

Also, do incorporate Moroccan mosaics in some way or another, be it actually having it on the floor or a print of it framed up as wall art.

As for lighting, I suggest yellow lights. If you need to read, use a free-standing reading lamp. White lights completely kill off any form of cozy atmosphere.
