Yvonne1979 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) Hi anyone have any information regarding home renovation suitable for the handicapped and elderly. I'm looking at recommendations on experienced contractors, designers etc to do up the house so my dad can have better and safer mobility when he gets back from the hospital. He's half paralysed so will need wheelchair accessible space and safe toilet facilities. I'm staying in a 5room HDB. Another concern is how much it will cost and how much time it will take to complete the job. Appreciate your replies. yoongf 11 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 BCA website has substantial documentation on this issue. http://www.bca.gov.sg/Friendly/friendly.html This is the current BCA building code on this issue. http://www.bca.gov.sg/BarrierFree/others/A...ityCode2007.pdf This is the ideal best practice http://www.bca.gov.sg/BarrierFree/others/ud_guide_2007.pdf To be honest, this is not a cheap exercise, as every item is structural in nature, specialised design and have few suppliers. For sanitaryware stuff, can go Fullsun Marketing at Jalan Besar (Kelantan area) which supplies handicapped toilet fittings for big commercial projects. hanbert 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) There is a grant given to HDB owner, I believe total cost is 2K+ but owner need to pay only 100+ only, scheme started 1 July. pilot run for certain estates but if need be, can request for exception. we are planning to do so. Check HDB website for more info.. see below when we wrote to HDB about this ..4 There is no Government agency that you can apply for grants for elderly care renovation works. Nevertheless, come July 2012, HDB plan to introduce Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) scheme. The EASE is only available for those HDB block that has been announced for Home Improvement Programme. The scope of works under EASE will include grab Bar within the flat, ramp at the entrance of the flat, slip-resistant treatment to bathroom/toilet floors etc. You may visit our website at www.hdb.gov.sg for more detail on Home Improvement Programme.Hi anyone have any information regarding home renovation suitable for the handicapped and elderly.
