darkfear 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2010 After the brainwashing by Anthony, we left to discuss whether we should buy (I admit I was sold by the time Anthony finished ). Next, we went to check out washing machines. Damage no.2: Washing Machine Background: I did more research on this, by reading up from Renotalk (Saw lots of arguments between the forummers lapena and cromodora about Miele etc) and the Web. Mainly it's to find out top-load vs front-load washing machines, and what brands can last. Summary for front loads vs top loads: Front Loads Pro: Saves water (up to 50 litres per wash), less soap (less water = less soap), gentler on clothes, less electricity (debatable though!), NICER. Cons: Expensive (Can cost about double or $300-$400 more), no stopping when it's started, uses low-sud detergent Top Loads Just the opposite of front loads basically. Uses up to 100 litres of water each wash. That's a **** lot of water. Conclusion: We decided to go for front loads, because we are environmentally friendly, we will recoup the upfront costs through the savings in water and detergent costs, and we want it NICE. Scenario: Anthony handed us over to his colleague dealing with washing machines, Philip. Boy... another super sales person. To cut the boring part of the story, we bought the LG F1422TD, 8kg front load with Direct Drive motor, $888. Not too shabby, because all the other places we visited annd cheapest was $899. Unfortunately, it's quite fugly as it's white and boring! Washing Machine saga to be continued in next post...
darkfear 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2010 (edited) Continuing the epic tale of the washing machine... Scenario: After buying all those stuff in the weekend, I decided to look online to see where else got ongoing sale to check out if other places were selling cheaper (make sure I hold Courts to their "Cheapest" claim mah.. ). Some names came up were Best Denki (Plaza Sg GET RIDiculous sale), Gain City (Extended Expo sale) and Harvey Norman (Great Price Chop) mentioned previously. Went down to Best Denki @ PS yesterday, and they were really moving out (Selling display sets, wrapping up stuff etc)! Made my way to the fridge area first, and they told me they were selling the fridge (I bought $699 @ Courts) for $849. So no problemo there. Went to washing machine area then saw the LG 1422 I bought for $888 going for $899 there.. so again no problemo... THEN I SAW THE MOTHER OF ALL WASHING MACHINE DEALS. Dimensions: 600mm(W) x 590mm (D) x 850mm (H) Notable features: 8.5kg load, Steam Tech, Direct Drive motor, Standby power zero, RPM range from 400,600,800,1000,1200,1400, Aqua lock The LG WD-1403TDS6 (Black) was going for $1399 (Cheapest seen: $1699)!!! You're probably thinking "Stupid fellow, so expensive for wachine machine, more expensive that the one you bought... besides you already have washing machine already??" Trust me all these thoughts ran through my brain, but then to sweeten the deal, LG is GIVING AWAY A 32" (32LD330) LCD TV AS WELL!!! Given that we are also hunting for 32" TV, I did a quick calculation. 32LD330 cheapest seen was $549, so the washing machine was actually going at about $850! This is cheaper than our much fuglier and lower range 1422TD. I immediately called up Courts, asked if I can exchange my washing machine for something else, and they said no problem because not yet delivered, just bring invoice down and repick what I want. Got wifey to call them again to double-check, got the same answer from Courts. And then we sealed the deal with Best Denki Final deal: $1399 for nice LG Washing Machine and LG 32" LCD Edited July 14, 2010 by darkfear

marsbars27 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2010 Was on leave today so I decided to pop down to the Citygas gallery at TripleOne Somerset.. Was inspired to get the heater and maybe the dryer since I've been seeing their adverts on the Circle Line.. So anyway thought I'll share what I learnt today from their helpful promoters City Gas Water Heater Promotional price till end-July: $128 (not inclusive of $60 prework installation) Basically what I gleamed from the promoter was that the heater was powered by 1 single battery (to ignite the flame when gas is pumped), so can save on electricity. You can literally see the blue flame burning from a hole in the middle looked abit dangerous. So must remember to switch it off once you finish using it. Next, the promoter actually opened the door of the shower room they had on display and let me feel the temperature of the water! The water was steaming, but felt not-very-hot to the touch. What was bad about this heater is that water is only heated up to 45 deg C, instead of about 60 deg C for normal electrical heaters. I've read reviews too whereby it takes some time for the water to be heated up since the cold water in the pipes need to be "pushed" out first.. So one bad point there.. Will get hubby to bathe first next time so when it's my turn the water will be nice and hot Lastly, the worst thing about the heater are the 3 gigantic pipes that run out of it! 1 gas, 1 hot water and 1 cold water. Hubby is gonna hate this.. Before you even decide to buy the heater, you can get the Citygas guys to go down for a site survey to advise you on the placement etc of the heater.. Best thing is there's no obligations to buy, and it's free! Just need to give them a call to arrange. City Gas Dryer Promotional price till end-July: $588 (not inclusive of $100 prework installation) I have been drooling over the idea of having a dryer for months now.. Imagine, no more bamboo poles, no more heaving heavy clothes out and no more worrying about bad weather! So this Citygas dryer is definitely something on my wishlist! And the promoter promises that the clothes will come out 100% dry (unlike some dryers)! So the nice promoter tells me the dryer basically works in 2 ways: using either the humidity sensor or the timer function. The humidity function works much like other dryers where the drying process will stop once a certain humidity level is reached. So the bad thing is when you dry clothes of different material, they will have varied degrees of dryness when the dryer stops. You can override this function using the timer function, but I thought it seemed quite dangerous (what if my clothes chao tar? ) and the promoter also said it's not recommended. If we purchase the dryer, it comes with either a free wall mount or standing rack. Took some pics of the wall mount on display for hubby to see, but doesn't seem too nice (or sturdy): And what's worse is we don't intend to put the dryer anywhere near the window, and the awful vent on top of the dryer is on the left hand corner of the dryer! (our window is on the right). So the promoter suggested something called a flue which is an accordion-like tube used to channel the hot air out of the window. Theirs looks much sturdier than the one I saw at Courts previously since it's made of plastic, but $75 for a tube is not justified!! Soooo.. Decisions decisions.. We have to decide whether we want to get these two items before end of this month! So many factors to consider.. The exposed piping, the ugliness of the heater and dryer, the fact that we wanna save our toilet wall tiles.. Headache! _______________________________________ City Gas Gallery (Somerset) TripleOne 111 Somerset Road #01-10 S238164 Tel: 6732 6910 Email: gallery@citygas.com.sg Operation Hours : Monday – Friday : 8:30am to 6pm Saturday : 8:30am to 1pm Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays

darkfear 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2010 wow, u really did your shopping reserch. congrats.. good deal. City gas dryer wall mount above your washing machine will look fantastic! haha thanks er... kuku? lol.. sounds like i'm scolding you instead I believe strongly in stretching the dollar and getting more bang for my buck haha! Especially big ticket items.. On the contrary, I'm afraid we won't be getting the citygas dryer because it's... really not that fantastic in the aesthetics department haha.. the "periscope-like" vent on top of the dryer is..zzz.. and the colour/design makes it seem abit old.. Anyways we decided that since clothes can just dry anyways in the room while hung up, we will just do that and save the cost of getting the dryer! At least this means it's ugly some times, but not all the time when the dryer is there Don't know if anybody knows of some really artistic/designer bamboo pole ceiling hooks?? haha.. One more point to note.. we will likely not get the citygas heater because it seems there will be alot of pipes running here and there, plus each time I shower, it will automatically heat the water up to 45degrees regardless I want it that hot or not ( Then the temperature of the water that comes out of the shower is mingled with cold water to get it to the temperature you want.. sort of like hotels)! This is a huge waste of energy compared to electric heaters where I can adjust the temperature of the water I want to heat up to..
