Can Use Same Light Point For Ceiling Fan?

Hey folks, as i'm going to build an Lbox, can i use to original point in the centre of my living room (that is currently connected to a hanging light) for a ceiling fan instead? If so, then i can save quite a bit of money creating a new point, switches, concealing the wires and such. TIA.

should be ok. I also used the existing light point for my ceiling fan, going through the cove light. Only hassle is the switch for the fan is quite far, so i had to get a remote

Hi all does anyone noes whether false ceilings are able to support hanging fans?? My contrator told me not adviseable to have hanging fan. I live in the top floor and ceilings are all like wooden... so no choice have to do false ceilings to whole hse. anyone had similar experience before?

Ceiling fan need the metal plate with eye, and minimum 2 anchor bolt. If false ceiling is far from the concrete ceiling, then need to order custom made extension rod.

Ceiling fan got dynamic load, and if not balance properly, will wobble. If drop can chop off head. False ceiling cannot support dynamic loads.

I dun know what hanging fan u're refering to.

You can install ceiling fan on false ceiling, only thing is that you need to have additional support in the false ceiling for the fan.

Yoongf, you've said what I want to say. Not a good idea to mount ceiling "onto fasle ceiling board", sure give way after some wobbling. Anchor bolts are important!

Hi Aida81,

If i'm not wrong, your ceiling is veri high up till to the roof forming a triangle at the tip of the roof rite.

No worries, if you wanna install ceiling fan on false ceiling, you can.

There are 2 ways,

1) using extension rod from the roof/ceiling.

2) using reinforce support to the false ceiling structure.

For method 1) Your ceiling fan extension rod must be install/mount 1st before the false ceiling is seal up.

For mehtod 2) Your contractor will know how to reinforce the false ceiling structure on the false ceiling on the place for mounting the ceiling fan.

This is a troublesome job, so yr contractor will advise you not to do, also it requires extra cost/fee and extra time.

Hi~ I have another question - what if it's the other way round, i.e. using an existing ceiling fan point for lighting instead, i supposed it shouldn't be a problem ba...?

And, there are 2 lines for the ceiling fan - one for light and one for regulator, if i want to replace the fan with normal light, what do we do to the line for regulator?

Yes, you can use the ceiling fan point for lightings as well.

Use the line for the lighting to connect to your light and isolate the line for the fan regulator by means of connector with insulating tape wrap around the connector and tuck it in the casing of the light that you hv install.

Ceiling fans, say V56VK, KDK, 56 inch blade, only 190watt. Current=190/230 <1ampere. Lighting electrical loop, use either max 6A or 10, so long as the max curent, in the particular loop or zone, not exceed the max ampere, everything will be alright, regardless what device you connect to it.
