reglxt 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 The Kitchen Table Story Just before CNY, i was talking about getting a kitchen table, so i can relocate my rice cooker and water heater there, and hence free up some of my countertop space. We were eyeing on this $99 Melltorp table which just nicely fits into that 40cm space (narrow!) we have for the kitchen table. but we didn't buy that time due to the full delivery schedule before CNY. and when we went ikea during this weekend... horror of horror... they told us that this long Melltorp table is OUT-OF-STOCK and DISCONTINUED!!! checked stocks from both Ikea Alexandra and Tampines. they actually have stock for the table frame but not the table top almost wanted to cry at that moment cos it took us so long to look for table of this size and now it's not available Disappointed, we continued to walk to the bookshelf section.... and new idea flashed across our mind............ we decided to just go for the good old EXPEDIT bookshelf instead: the height is just right and the depth is just right (39cm!). some more can put in drawers if i want to~ and, who says bookshelves cannot be used in kitchen? only complaint is that it's a bit too short (79cm. Melltorp table is 95cm long, width 38cm). when i voiced that out, hubby raised his eyebrows and went "you want that additional 16cm for what??" then i suggested to use the longer EXPEDIT instead (have it put horizontally on the floor): unfortunately, the request was rejected flatly, AGAIN.................. did you check out howard's storage? or maybe go to neighborhood furniture shop see see look look? froggy 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2011 btw marsh, you want extra storage or worktop? If worktop, wouldnt this shelf be too high? Another point - wood and water are enemies - depending on what you are putting/using the shelf
marshmallow 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2011 did you check out howard's storage? or maybe go to neighborhood furniture shop see see look look? yeap, in fact the 1st place i went was Howard Storage (before going to Ikea). was looking at a chrome wire rack with plastic solid board on top, but they told us to have the size we want, they need to customise. before customizing it's already >$150... We found the price not worth it so decided to look elsewhere~ oh ya May Dream, Howard Storage got a number of kitchen trolleys that are the type you're looking for, you can drop by to take a look btw marsh, you want extra storage or worktop? If worktop, wouldnt this shelf be too high? Another point - wood and water are enemies - depending on what you are putting/using the shelf it's for storage... i'm not using it as a worktop (cannot lah!)... the purpose of it is to store my stuff that is currently taking up my worktop space, so i have more worktop space for cooking etc. so this shelf will be at the "dry" area of the kitchen. it's 79cm in height, just like a normal dining table standard kitchen countertop height is 34 in (86.4 cm) though mine is 31 in (78.7cm). manutd1972 1 Report post Posted March 8, 2011 still trying to imagine the new look... find the 3 lone panels very odd in the middle of this big wall. what do you all think? i'm really sketical that it will look nice~ anyway, i will enjoy the sight of this big wall in nice colour (i really love this paint colour!) until this sat... when the delivery comes.......... if the panels are wider than the 2 central drawers, and shorter than the height of the bedroom door, after mounting, the panels would den transform that big wall into a feature wall. i think it would look quite nice. but if tall and narrow, den difficult to make the wall look like a feature wall liao. manutd1972 1 Report post Posted March 8, 2011 continue on our ikea shopping...: That Bedside Table... I wanted a bedside table/cabinet with drawers from the beginning becos i think i need somewhere to put my handphones/chargers/alarm clock..... but hubby rejected the request flatly. reason: (a) MBR is already small enough and (b) one more piece of furniture, one more thing to clean. it was lucky that our bedframe has some "platform" design so we can still line up the alarm clock and stuff on the bedframe itself, so we endure without a bedside table for this past 7 months. finally (yes, finally!) hubby himself couldn't stand the sight of messy handphone charge cables anymore, and now he is more convinced than me that he NEEDS a bedside table! yay!! so we got this from ikea. matches our colour scheme, functional, and, well, cheap. it will be at the inside of the room, behind where the standing lamp is now. i'm using this bedside table too! 2 of them, one on each side of my bed. although colour is not exactly the same as my bed frame, everyone who saw it couldn't tell that it was not part of a package. together with my laminate flooring, bed frame, wardrobe and bedroom door, they look like a bedroom set....haha...
