my SIL home.. she's having black solid surface.. alot of scratches and the black become dull.. and greyish near the sink area.. so i opt for light grey for my countertop..

Hi, I'm new here and have been reading lots of T-Blog. I'm also from Sengkang but not as fortunate as rest of you that have 6 - 8 weeks for renovation. I only have 3 weeks and therefore couldn't do much. Back to the topic, what do you think of granite or marble top ... maintenance needed?

wow, nice 3D - what software did you use? think about time for me to learn to use some of these for my design too!

just curious - why do you place the small sink and big sink where they are now? I would prefer the large sink nearer the cooking area, and for service yard, a smaller sink - bc cooking area got big pots etc, while service yard mainly rinse/soak clothes?

hehe :sport-smiley-018: its google sketch.. at first i didn't understand how to use it but once u get the hang of it its quite fun.. somethings i still donno how to do. like insert furniture/appliances etc. tts why there's a big space there instead of a fridge

well, the big sink we thought move to the wet area so that we can have more worktop in the kitchen for food prep. The small sink is for cooking and food prep purposes while the big sink is for washing up. In theory, it sounds good i guess, don't know how practical it will be. :dunno:

hmm yea that's true. i actually like the idea of white. but the maintenance is quite daunting..

But isnt it that white is stained easily? esp since i'll be using tumeric in my cooking. i don't want my solid surface turning yellow. yucks.. :bleah: Actually, scratches usually due to what? knives..?

Oh! really for granite then I may have to re-consider. I'm at Rivervale Drive and moving to Rivervale Walk.

No idea.. she always use chopper board to do her cutting.. maybe the abrasion when she move her pots around or when she cleaned her kitchen top using sponge to clean the stubborn grease.. her kitchen is only 2yrs old.. before we knew it.. the scratches are there to stay..

Btw.. mine is not granite or marble.. its just solid top with marble look alike.. i use alot of tumeric in cooking too.. esp for cooking curry or frying chicken and stuff.. now must make it a habit to wipe straightaway if it spills.

seal? what's that?

# The purpose of sealing granite countertops is to prevent absorption. Even if the slab has been pre-sealed, repeating the process after installation is recommended.

More info about sealers here care for granite tops here. Hope that helps :) !
