you can overlay as long as the current floor is not overlaid. do open your eyes big big when you shop, don't get chopped :)

ossify ah ossify

I have one ID who just told me that it can't be done because the marble flooring was very thick to begin with so with the basic cement screed + the laying of the marble, there would be no chance for me to overlay with tiles since I would've hit the "hdb limit"...

is there such a limit? if so, how thick?

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request
anyone can help me?

what does the person meant when he/she say:-

"construct cement motar base for kitchen cabinet c/w side tiling" ??

layman english please.......

and another question:-

If i do not wish to get a water heater installed in both WCs but would like to get sing power's gas heater (is that called citygas?), is it possible?

my unit is an old unit and i am not sure if this is can be done? how do i check to see if this can be done?

Is possible to get a citygas gas heater. Regardless yours is 30yrs or 100yrs flat, as long as there is gas supply to the building, its can be done.

I think its 50mm from the actual hdb flooring

fastest way to see if got piped gas in your building:

walk around your neighbour's corridor. there is one meter for gas and one meter for electricity.

:)

if they have piped gas, u can install gas heater le.

i also faced the same situation when i was shopping for ids, most of the time is the adding on to the height of the flooring after overlay. So in the end, we didnt hack, we kept but overlay laminates in 2 bedrooms.

we looked for 4rm and no luck too...suddenly 1 agent called and say got a 5rm listed for 11x and we flipped! 11x's 4 or 5rm very fast snapped up...we viewed another one at 200+ (near the mosque or SPC), cov too high...

so we settled for this, cov 26k. we think its a steal for the amount of cov we are paying - considering high property prices

why ah? JE no one selling their place. too much demand, too little supply.

whereas JW has lots of supply but matching demand

puiz

Yea JE mostly are 3 and 5 rooms, there are less 4-room flats around... took me quite a while to find too. and somehow JE very few pple are selilng house ;)

you'd better call City Gas to check... i just called last week and they told me JE mostly dun have gas pipes except those newer units (like the 10+ yrs old one at Toh Guan area). i know that Blk 20x to 25x, 3xx dun have City Gas... not sure about blk 1xx....

i remembered reading a rule that says the flooring cannot exceed a certain thickness (think it's 50mm like what wolflet mentioned). so whether can overlay or not depends on your existing marble thickness... you can find this rule at HDB website :)

mine also marble floor, but decided to keep it cos no more budget to hack... hahaha :P

wow it's already answered before i can reply :D

Total thickness of tiles and screed must not exceed 50 mm

http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/...t#FloorFinishes

assuming your floor already reached 50mm (which imho is unlikely), another option, is to overlay with laminates. it's not considered as tile/screed so it's not in the 50mm rule :)

do me a favour, let me know what's the distance between your ceiling and flooring

the ID yesterday told me, that the HDB basic cement screed + marble sure hit will be hovering >40mm thick. So if I choose to overlay with tiles, it will be more than 50mm. true or false?

so are you saying that if I put on laminates, I still can do so regardless how high (or low) the current floor is?

noob qn: do I need to measure from the real ceiling or from the false ceiling?? :dunno::blink:

hmmm... i guess need to measure from floor to false ceiling? cos there is a rule that says there must be minimum clearance of 2.4m between finished flooring and underside of the ceiling.

imo, if 2.4m is the requirement, i think alot of our houses with false ceiling would have failed this.

hmmm are you referring to cornice? cornice and false ceiling got different height rule... for cornice is 2.1m... but i guess you are right that many false ceiling would have failed the 2.4m rule~ :P
