hello everyone

my existing living room flooring is marble and we do not like the marble; intend to replace it with tiles

in this case, we have few options:-

1. hack and then lay new tiles = expensive to hack

2. overlay with laminate = but taking a risk coz must see foundation good for laminate or not. and do not like the wood grain look of laminate

3. overlay with tiles = can this be done? what are the risks i have to take if i dont hack the marble away first?

any other solutions?

personally i prefer to hack off ext'g tiles and lay new ones

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request
1. Hack and lay new tiles = expensive to hack, but also won't worry about your main door, main gate, bedrooms doors also.

2. Overlay with laminate = foundation for marble is better so don't need to worry, cos u only heard marble floor crack but not pop out. But since u don't like the wood grain of laminate, then this option is out already.

3. Overlay with tiles = can be done. just pity only. Same as overlay laminate, the height increased, the doors might affected.

oo.. pardon me and enlighten me. i tot living room cannot do overlay. as in cannot cause is against hdb regulations or sort?

yes you can overlay living room. but can not overlay twice. ie. maximum 2 layers, not 3.

pixiepixel: are you interested in middle-range laminates? very woody feel and water resistant.

ossify

i dont like anything type of flooring or finish that has to do with wood feel/look...

meaning the finished product cannot be brownish or with the wood grain or the swirling patterns etc.....just get very turned off (no offense to the rest who are doing the resort, or bali look etc)

unless i can find a laminate which doesnt give me that finish..........................but i heard laminates have all in different colours n all but, with the same wood finish :bangwall::~

Nowadays, laminates come in all kinds. What colour/feel do you like?

Something like these?

another question:-

so how do I know who is telling the truth?

you can overlay as long as the current floor is not overlaid. do open your eyes big big when you shop, don't get chopped :)
