Wow! $999... burn another hole.

How does the Oppo compare to say the Dune 3.0 Prime?

I'm looking for a multi player to do Bluray, DVD, CDs primarily, and preferably region free/hassle free, just hook up the player to my AVR.

Bro

Dune is a good & cheap choice. Why dont u get the Dune Pro or HD Max? Dune Prime codecs dont have HD audio format.

Both Pro & HD max can act as a very good CD transport as well.

Bro,

Thanks a lot for your inputs. I was considering between the Dune Prime and Dune HD Max.

Also heard that the new Oppo BDP-93 would be out soon, but not sure about pricing and if it will also be region free.

I will go check out the Dune HD Max as you suggest.

OPPO93 launch probably Dec 2010. Dont expect prices to be cheap. My best estimates around $900.

But its **** sleek.

Hi all, need your advice and suggestions here, will have a dedicated room in my small house for a home theatre experience.. initially just wanted an entry level 5.1 system so went to audition pro cinema 600 and wharferdale 10.1 but the experience are just... uninspiring.. my missus think its really not worthwhile to spend 2000+ on them which i have to agree in a way..

Just a few hours back, went plaza sing think too much time so went av1 see see look look and the sales guy, without telling us the price, introduce us to the Morel MT-2 system and we are hooked! the liveliness of the speakers and the engaging listening experience leave us with a deep impression.. The pricing of this system is definitely far off than what we originally set up with but now we think this is a more worthwhile investment than the 2000+ we pay for entry levels..

Now the big question is, are there any other 5.1 that we should audition before we make a decision? :)

Hi vicenzo and all pro pro HTS user here~~~

This is me & my husband 1st time buy Sound system, and today we jus went down to Harvey Norman to test the HTS. The salesman has recommend the

- Onkyo 608 receiver

+

- Mirage MX 5.1 (not floor stander speaker, it's a very small hanging top speaker)

or

- Jamo S606HCS3

or

- Onkyo HTS-728

He keep saying the mirage speaker very good, next time i won't complain too dusty and the sound is 360, so even though we not sit in the center or walk around also can feel the effect~ is that true??

I jus read through this thread frm 1st page to this page, i find that you all really pro, know how to choose different brand for different part~~ :( which i don't know at all~ Hope you guys can help me~~~

May i know which brand and model that u will suggest to me? We will use it in a common room as a entertainment room~ can you help me to write out the model no. too? Bec i really a noob~ Thanks a lot~ 感激不尽

AVR - Onkyo 608

Speakers - Fronts & Rears : Deft Tech Procinema 800 I Centre : Deft Tech Procinema 1000

Subwoofer - Velodyne CHT-8Q

1.) receiver

2.) Speaker

3.) subwoofer

I see from the previous thread, a few of them buy this :

AVR - Onkyo 608

Speakers - Fronts & Rears : Deft Tech Procinema 800 I Centre : Deft Tech Procinema 1000

Subwoofer - Velodyne CHT-8Q

Is that good enough for me? And may i know why some of them want to buy 708 for the subwoofer calibration, what's is this? is this very important? And one of my friend suggest us to buy 7.1 than 5.1~ 7.1 is it really better than 5.1?

I'm really sorry for so so so many questions~ Hahaha.... but really feel lost now~~

Compare apple to apple. AV1 has a good acoustic enclosure just like his neighbor Atlas Hi-fi. Put MT-2 in the open, the quality deteriotes immediately.

MT-2 is a 6 Ohm speaker & its power handling is only 80W. Plus point is that u dont need a high end receiver eg Onkyo 708 upwards or the Yamaha RV series. Bad point is at 80W how much further can you go? Too loud volume will distort the speaker.

Have u tried B&W yet?

Cheers

Avoid going to Harvey, Courts or best Denki is u want to purchase your 1st HTS.

Try Adelphi as there's more shops that specialises in these products.

Most importantly, be comfortable with a specific budget.

For starters, a 5.1 system would suffice. And yes, the above combination of HTS would be ideal.

Do go for an audition to have a proper feel & this may help a lot in your HTS selection.

cheers

I cant help laughing at some advices given though its no fault of yours.

A 7.1 system is good & handy if you really want to have 7 speakers & blow away your neighbors.

But wait a minute, there arent many movies in 7.1 format. Same goes for those who buy 3D TV.

So dont just "follow" the latest trend unless you know what you want.

As I mentioned earlier, a 5.1 HTS is good enough. Yes, the 708 receiver is good if you have time to fine tune

the sub for every single movie to find the sweet spot. But then again the 608 would be sufficient if one arent too

fussy.

And to really make your HTS work, go HD by getting into Bluray. The 608 is able to decode the highest audio &

video performance for your enjoyment.

Cheers

Yup.. actually i was suspecting whether the room we testing in is specially treated, so was walking around the room to 'inspect' it.. haha.. but only see some sound diffusers.. will it really enhance the sound that much? i agree that loud volumes will distort the speakers, similar to headphones but me n my missus both agree that he didn turn the volume really loud.. as compared to testing pro 600 and wharfedales in kec.. can hear the speakers stretching to keep pace..

intend to go down this weekend to test B&W, any particular systems u will recommend? i totally clueless with B&W.. we prefer lively speakers as they can really bring up the theatre experience.. actually not necessary need to be sats, we are fine with bookshelves too but floorstanders will need some convincing, as my dedicated is not that big too, about 2.75metres X 4.1metres.

B&W showroom @ TheExperts. Shop at Lavender St next to Imminient Plaza. Do tryout the B&W 600 series & if you have better budget,

try the 800 series.

Or alternatively, audition Monitor Audio & Tannoy speakers. Both at Adelphin though I cant remember which shop.

cheers
