Job Of Contractor(s)

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I will be getting my new place. It is a resale condo unit with nearly 90% move in condition except for some minor renovations. I am a newbie in the renovations works area.

Some of the renovations include :

- repainting of whole house

- Parquet repair/vanish

- cabinet door handle replacements

- minor carpentry works (to build some shelfs for shoe cabinet, wooden top for window parapet)

- Door not able to close easily

- Aircon servicing

- replacement of marble slab for coffee table (owner left it behind where top is broken but the legs are still ok)

- Rack/shelf for utility room

- I also need someone to advise if I can install ceiling fan. Currently, previous owner sealed up the wiring on the ceiling and i can't confirm where is the **** switch in the living room area.

Sorry for the stupid question, but given the above do i get a single contractor to help in providing the services that are needed or I have to get and coordinate myself for each work area? Is there such a a 'contractor-do-all' kind of thing?

Any advise appreciated.

If it is just minor works, you can just get the respective trades person to do the repairs for you. You should get some quotes and get a feel of the pricing. Sounds like you just need a painter, carpenter, air-con servicing person and electrician

There are general contractors available but they will just sub-contract it to their sub-contractors and you just end up paying a premium for nothing. The general contractor is not going to be watching the workers all the time (if at all).

Generally, i find that i always have to supervise the workers and make sure it is done properly.
