strawberry8 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 Hi from MaCe post, I learn to use stainless steel pipes as curtain rod. Went to a hardware shop and found they sell 15mm (80 cents / foot) and 22mm ($1.40 / foot) in diameter. The 15mm can rest of the IKEA VAGEN series curtain bracket but I find it a tad too narrow. This bracket can hold up to a max of 18mm. So I like to use the 22mm pipe. This does not fit into the above IKEA curtain bracket Went to ask curtain shop and they use 19mm SS rod and charge $12 / foot. Question - where can I find curtain brackets that can hold 22mm diameter pipe/rod ? Appreciate your reply.

gladyslim 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 Those 0.80cents or $1.40 pfr is not stainless steel, it's only chrome finishing as in those hanging rod in the wardrobe. You can buy the whole length in hardware shop and cut it with a hack saw. The $12pfr is too expensive, maybe you can try teck leong at blk 28 Kelantan lane. Just buy 304, 18g will do. Stainless steel bracketry is normally customise.

Tarnish? what is the diameter of these pipes? How much roughly do they cost per m or per foot ?
gladyslim 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 Thanks for your reply. Oh, you mean it is not advisable to use these pipes as curtain rod? I'm saying for that price range, the material is not s/s. 1 lenght; 6m of dia 15mm pipe is close to $40/-,i.e $2/- pfr What will happen? Tarnish? It's alright to use chrome pipe unless you use it in the toilet. Stainless steel pipe is must heavier, not a good choice as curtain rod. what is the diameter of these pipes? 10. 12.7. 15. 18. 19. 20. 22.25 ------- How much roughly do they cost per m or per foot ? check with vendor
strawberry8 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks Gladys I called up Teck Leong but they only sell 15.8mm and 19.05mm. Prices are $25 and $35 for every 6m run. They dont sell 18mm. IKEA can hold up to ma of 18mm. Do you know anyone who can custom make curtain bracket ? Thanks!
blue_skies 3 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 Have you tried looking at the ready made curtain rods sold at Spotlight? They have some metal / iron ones and I've used those for my home. Can cut to length if required with a hand saw. The curtain brackets they sell there can also fit the rods so you'll save yourself the hassle of running around to look for different items at different places. strawberry8 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) thanks for the tip to go to spotlight....will do that this fri night as i will be in that vincity then. meanwhile, i am almost quite certain the price of 80 cents/foot run for 15mm diameter wide for curtain rod is unbeatable! i need abt 50 feet for my entire house and it will cost me $39. If I get IKEA brackets, it would top up to $55 ? I called Jason (the 'famous curtain maker in this forum) and was quoted $550 for 50 feet of metal rod plus installation. Me cheapo, not willing to spend so much on curtain rod I made my curtains in Shanghai as I was there for 3 weeks last mth...cost me $450 for whole house curtains - eyelet - supposedly more expensive than double pleats due to amt of cloth to be used and the metal eyelets. 3 bedrooms, 1 study and 1 living / dinning. retroman 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 also, appreciate very much if anyone know where to get ring with clip. thanks.
strawberry8 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 (edited) IKEA does sell the rings with the clip. I asked my contractor to buy the 6mm diameter stainless steel water pipe and fixed them up using IKEA curtain brackets for the rooms and also from Spotlight for my living as my living is very long. 6mm diameter will fit into the IKEA bracket - no choice. My curtains are already the silver eye-let type and it turned out great (in my opinion). My contractor charged me a total of $50 for all 5 pipes, dimensions are (he measured and cut for me to the exact length) - living - 387mm study - 288mm master bedroom - 237mm bedroom 2 - 317mm bedrom 3 - 266mm They are all delivered in 1 single piece per room and I dont have to join, unlike the IKEA curtain rod where you have to extend to the legnth you want andthe sliding effect is not smooth at the extension. I used 3 brackets per room and the above dimension are wall to wall to have the high ceiling effect (my curtain length from from ceiling to floor, +/- 1-2cm). Hmmm..... 6mm diameter is quite small for most eye-let type curtain which is usually very heavy. You sure that diameter size can support that weight?
