jeda 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 I didn't want to renovate our new place initially cos of the hassle of sourcing and dealing with ID/contractors; besides ours is a simple move-in condition flat. Hubby however wanted very much to do at least something to our new place especially the bombshelter. So after 5mths of waiting for our first appointment, and 1 mth before getting our keys, and a few nights of 'heated/intensive discussion', we compromised to only do up the living room only after I managed to get someone to recommend me her ID (the other contractor that someone else recommended me never returned my call) who is willing to do our small job. Now that we are newbies to this, we hope that forummers here can guide us and give us advice along the way. Thanks in advance! My first query will be, does a normal quote includes supply of light fittings and switches? I thought they don't cos the ID won't know our requirements but my husband thought that it should be all in and at least they should give a budget for that item when quoting us a figure. Normally don't quote for supplying of light fittings cos your taste and he/her taste may be different and price vary a lot. blueocean 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Downlights have different designs : a. glass cover or no glass cover b. sqaure or circle c. usually magnetic ballast ... although there is electronic ballast but i havent seen before in shops d. 1 or 2 tubes e. the holder has different colour - black, white etc Make sure when the lighting shop quote you, they quote you with the ballast and the tube. Sometimes they just quote you the holder and then add and add to give you a bigger final amount. Also, the ballast and tubes got different brand ... depends on your preference. My kitchen is the medium or large downlight with dual tubes. Living/dining is small with 2 tubes. Downlight got small, medium, large. 1 tube or 2 tube. Traditional downlights have no cover for holder (still available now and cheaper).
