Syukur 1 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 Hi guys / gals... I am planning to make L-box n false ceiling for my living / dining area. Kindly refer to the photos to comment. Firstly I wanna ask, does this design make any sense? Will it turn out ok? Regarding the false ceiling near the main entrance, is it too wide? Lightings wise, with the downlights, is it sufficient to brighten up the house, or do I need to place cove lightings in addition to that? BTW, arrangements of downlights is it ok? Most importantly, design wise ok? And cost effective? Anyone wanna suggest better ideas, with better design and perhaps more cost effective? Planning to engage a company (being recommended by some forumers here), specialise in making cornices. Thank you...

Syukur 1 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) well... first and foremost.... wat are the things that you are planning to have in your living room and dining room? if there are nothing really significant lie a tv ft wall, we just have to play wif having suffficient lights... lionfreak, tks for reply... Alright, what i want is pretty simple. A tv feature wall is located near the window (highlight in red). That area i will furnish with sofa set, maybe an l-shape sofa. Looking to maybe put some additional floor lamp, n minor decorations, and thats it. Pretty simple, nothing really complicated. More of being simple n practical. Also considering putting a full height mirror on the wall (store / shelter) in between main door n kitchen entrance. As for dining area, just a dining set, perhaps a 6 seater. Kindly advise yah.. Thanks u all.. Am more concern with the ceiling n lightings anyway. Edited May 31, 2010 by Syukur
bepgof 20 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) - False ceiling/L/rectangular box. help reduce "horizontal beam effect". Best is 4'' thick, not 6". - Always install "downlight", could be PLC. LED or halogen, with false ceiling. White & warm light to choose from. -Caution: warm light no good to human eye for reading, thought it marks ambience "soft". - Recommend to install "Legrand switches" with curve surface. - Think carefully the "grouping" of lighting with switches. - Never like standing fan or lamp, very obstructing- when mopping floor. - Avoid "suspended" carpentry works, not sustainable for long, thought look nice. - Try not to have more than 4 main colors for hall(flooring, sofa, wall, carpentry)-same color with different tones is ok. - Wall/flooring colour try to contrast. - Folyer is important, pay extra attention to it. - Try not to install "fixed" stuff, after 3-5years, you will get "tired" of current design and want to change. - Ceiling fans also important, unless you install to switch on aircon all time.
