home_sweet_home 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) Can anyone share with me if I were to overlay the kitchen floor with tiles without hacking: - Do i need to apply water-proofing before the tiles are being overlay on the existing ones? - Compare doing hacking of existing kitchen floor tiles then laying of new tiles to overlaying, which one will be better in the long run (i mean to ask which one will be less prone to future problem like leaking to the below unit). If i will to do cement screed over the kitchen wall tiles, what are some possible future problems that I can face? For a 30 years old flat, I am considering to do plastering for the whole unit. If I do not do plastering and decide to paint a few more coating of paint over the wall. Will it helps or should i ask will the after painting condition be as similar to plastering? i have some more qns to add on. -can someone advise if the following procedure before tiling is correct. after tiling, need to cement screed the floor then add waterproofing x 3 layers then lay tiles after it dry..am i right? -how long does it takes for the cement screed to dry before we can lay the water proofing to the screeded floor? a few hrs or 1, 2 days? -how long does it takes for the water proofing to dry? before applying another layer or start tiling?
