bepgof 20 Report post Posted May 23, 2010 (edited) omg you sure ? caus I am so going to find my contractor and scold him...lol jkin anyways to prevent this from happening again ? Sure, caused by acid washing. Prevent metallic stuff contact wwith acid. Use "brasso" to rub & clean. Edited May 23, 2010 by bepgof
gladyslim 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2010 The sink don't look like stainless steel material. It is also not likely the cause of acid on s/s. In industrial, chemical is use to clean s/s and etching the s/s to a desire print like those panel mainly seen in lift. What causes the rust on the s/s sink is normally the quality of the s/s. The quality of Japanese product cost more and better than Thailand and Finland etc.

sunboy 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2010 If it is really cause by acid washing...I really will make a call to my contractor Btw, how you solve the problem ? does it come back again after wiping ? you can try using autosol. I believe it might come back because your coating has been damaged. perhaps having a coating of oil could delay it.
manutd1972 1 Report post Posted November 16, 2010 haha. why not you try bleach on s/s item and tell me that it won't rust? ehh....dude, S/S is almost rustproof against moisture, not chemical leh. Bleach contains etching agents that act like diluted acid. So if u put bleach and S/S together, obviously the S/S will tarnish sooner or later and once the outer layer of protection has been etched away, the underlying steel will surely rust. besides, gladyslim is not saying tt S/S will never rust. only saying the quality of S/S frm different makers are different. i can tell u 18/10 S/S frm reputable European and American makers are almost rust-proof, but 18/10 S/S frm a run-of-the-mill China maker will rust within 12 months of usage, if not sooner. my personal experience frm my previous job in the marine industry, China S/S starts to rust in less than 6 mths when exposed to the harsh marine environment. Worse part is it's actually labelled 18/8 S/S, which is the most rust-resistant grade of S/S.
gladyslim 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2010 haha. why not you try bleach on s/s item and tell me that it won't rust? Laugh later If the s/s is good quality type like 304, use of bleach won't cause that kind of rust. You should try and see it for yourself. Come back to me if it rust, I'll teach you how to polish it; in BA, hairline and non- directional finishing provided you have the random sander.

gladyslim 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2010 Stainless steel, aluminum, brass and bronze does not have a layer of protective coating as in galvanise sheet and EG plate. It can be cut, weld, grind and polish (except aluminum) to its original condition.
