froggy 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 Where is a better place to mount the kitchen sink mixer and soap dispenser? In terms of durability and maintenance? On the solid worktop or on the ss sink itself? For the first, sink shape is usually those "diamond" designer type, where there is no edge round the sink to mount anything. So got to mount on the solid top. Just wondering which is better before I place my order for sink thanks
yoongf 11 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 If got such a choice, I will mount on solid surface, reason being the solid surface is more rigid, while SS mounting surface may twist and warp, resulting in loose fitting after a while. Those expensive european SS sink will provide extra reinforcement plates to stiften the mounting plate. But hor.. usually the decision is already determined by the sink design and tap design. Chosse favourite sink design, choose favourite tap design, by then.. chances are the tap may be too short or too low to mount on solid surface.

I thought if you mount tap on solid surface, it will actually be higher than mounting on sink?
htng 1 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 why is that so? I thought if you mount tap on solid surface, it will actually be higher than mounting on sink? there is no concern drilling into the sink. I did not do any calculation but steel is so tough as compared to solid top which is acrylic material. Of course considering solid top is 20 times thicker than sink thickness? My thought: 1) sink manufacturer definitely did the test if they were to design and cater space for tap and soap dispenser mounting 2) I always feel it is risky to drill on solid top. Any mishap and you need to replace whole top which cost like $80-100 per ft compared to say sink which is like $200?

High is good, but is the water spray aiming at the middle of the sink? If too high, and angle of spray cannot adjust, then the water will splash out to the user. Those taps whose spout is like a big question mark is ok as the water is aimed vertically down. But there are those that come out at an angle.
