Recommended Posts

Hi hi i am a newbie here.

Just bought a 'original' condition 3 rm resale flat with terrazzo floor & mosaic kitchen floor. Thanks God e 2 bathrooms r up-graded.

thinking of remove & re-tile the floor for Living, bedrooms, store, kitchen & full height kitchen wall. does any1 can advise how much will it cost? very tight budget. :( at 1st was thinking of overlay e entire floor, but worry abt the hollowness & de-bonding of tile. after all it is a 30yrs old original condition flat.

No good to overlay especially when your flat is so old. The base tiles may pop up when overlay, hence affecting the surface. Better to hack off and re-do a new one. Costing wise, depends on what tiles you choose and how expensive the tile will cost psf.

a quicky estimate would be around $1.5k to hack all tiles and another $7k for flooring. generally speaking..

hi...sorry for hikjacking this thread...generally what is the labour cost for retiling....excluding hacking n cost of material...

Was told that after hacking...got to smooth out the bumps etc...my contractor quote me $8.6 psf while my tiles cost $3 psf...seems excessive to me...pls advise...appreciated.

Hi, I was in your situation before. Bought a old 3rm flat with Terrazzo. Then I decided to do laminating flooring where it does not need to hacking the existing flooring.

Hi

For my experience, this will cost about 13k to 15k for all the job beening done.

U may consider of using laminated flooring to overlay as the existing flooring may looks old but still even.

Hacking fee and gargage fee will cause u a bomb.

The charge of the walls are higher.

Hi,

I'm new here...

since there a topic on this, I think I should just tag on it rather than creating the same topic.

Mine is a 3rm resale... the previous owner had done a very low-cost whole flat renovation.... I'm not sure y on earth will they used rough uneven surface homogenous tiles for the whole entire flat (living, kitchen, 2 bedrooms) same colour, same type.

The tiles surface are those, hmm... how do I put it... not flat and smooth surface but have contour like the "cream cracker biscuit" surface... I'm happening to be eating a cream cracker while typing this post, so the illustration just come to my mind :D

It traps dust and stains very easily because it is beige in color. I thought these tiles are only good for wet kitchen of toilet. Anyway, I have live with it for the past 5yrs and requires lots or washing n scrubbing (thanks that my living hall not so many furniture to move when need to wash the tiles).

I'm tired with the feel and appearance of the tiles.

Time to change.

But how much do I expect to pay for changing the tiles (hack, dispose, lay new tiles, buy tiles)?

Can I overlay on it with new tiles?

My living hall area is rectangle 24' x 9'.

Thanks for any info.

i finally decided to re-tile the whole flat & reno is still undergoing now. hacking of floor (living, kitchen, store & 2 rooms) & kitchen wall + hack down wall between kicthen/living cost me $2k + near $3K. tiling ard $4.5psf. i source my own tile hence can not advise the tile supply rate but from quotation it is ard $2.5 - $3.5psf. btw, i find contractor direct. overall it should not exceed $10K. hope it help.
