Need Help About Changing Wc (squat --> Sit Type)

Recommended Posts

Hi Forum-ers,

I plan to change the old toilet bowl squat type to sit Type, the things that I need to ask are:

  1. What is the risk of changing this toilet bowl ?
  2. Is that simple job, just dismantle old WC and install the new one ? Or need some other work ?
  3. Do the shop which sell this toilet bowl also provide dismantle and installation for us or we need to hire plumber to do it ?

Thanks in advance

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

you would need a plumber and its not as simple as dismantle and replace.

squat type toilet bowl typically are built so that surrounding water will flow into the bowl, so the floor is slightly sloped.

if you just put a sitting bowl on top, water accumulation will happen at the base of the WC due to the slope.

For my house, i opted to overlay the tiles, then change to sitting type.

most shops will provide recommendations, not to worry. Of course they will usually disclaim all problems with installation as according to them the installation is outsourced. :)

Thanks for the helpful information.. By the way, any problems with overlay of tiles? I'm afraid the tiles might pop in future.. Don't know if new tiles can bond with existing tiles??

i guess overlay always has this risk...but its cheaper than hack then relay tiles...so i chose overlay. The exact details as to what causes tiles to pop up, i am not expert also...

so for a start, only choose a hdb licenced contractor, they are under greater obligation to do a better job. If pop up, complain to HDB! :P

Thanks for all the response. I already consult with the contractor and decide to hack all the bathroom floor and rebuild it again with the new sitting type toilet bowl. In this time as I also have another thing to do so I just ask my contractor to re-quote the price. For this conversion itself (hacking + re-do bathroom tile + changing toilet bowl), it cost me : $1400

The contractor said if I just overlay, it still ok but there will be leakage risk later on, so I decide to re-do the toilet flooring in order to change this old type toilet bowl. For wet work, the contractor will give me 5 yr warranty

5 Years warranty, ideally if something happened with his job, in this case a leakage, he shoudl come and fix it for me.

Here are the details:

  1. Hack off existing toilet: $250
  2. Lay pressure grout at toilet floor: $40
  3. Lay 3 in 1 prepack screed: $40
  4. Water proofing: $70
  5. Lay anti slip homogenous floor tiles at toilet (Max price for tile: @3.5 psf): $400
  6. Wall tiles ceramic installation (when he hack the floor, there should be some wall tiles broke): $150
  7. Toilet bowl installation (Brand: Otto): $300
  8. To do conversion of squat to sit type: $180

I don't know the result yet but I got this contractor from my colleague and as I saw the result in his house (re-built everything from scratch), the quality is ok and according my friend, this man is very responsible and always check in detail of the work. But as I said, I haven't experienced it by myself so cannot tell you about their work. Maybe later after he finish his work, I will share with other forumers the quality of his work and the quality of his final result
