natasha27 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 Can anyone give advise on which is better? I don't know whether I should get one of those new-age microvave cum convection/grill/roast microvave ovens which are being sold now, or a traditional built-in convection oven? The microwave oven has a brain and all so many functions, where you can choose Pizza, Vegetable, Grill Beef, Rpast..etc menu options. The oven, is built in. and works like a tradional oven. The saleslady told me that the microwave oven comes with excellent performance in cooking and cookies, and tarts etc will turn out much better compared to a built-in oven. Would someone with more experiene pls enlighten me! I am not an avid baker, but plan to start once I get my own place in another 2 weeks and I need to buy an oven to give my contractor for measurements. Hi, I was also deciding whether to get the inbuilt oven and microwave or just microwave with add'l functions for my future home. I have decided to get microwave with multiple functions instead, just becos the price of the oven may not be worth paying considereing the v few times i will be baking. heheh However, if you plan to bake (cakes esp) a lot and like once a fortnight, i say go for oven. If not, i think it may not be worth the money. We do tend to go crazy and buy stuff during renovation. heheh Let us know what you finally decide
sff 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2010 I bought a portable oven with multiple functions like microwave, steam, bake, grill, roast... for my new house. Decided not to get a built in one because I don't wish to waste cabinet space. Also if oven spoil, easy to change, just dump and get a new one. No need to worry about measurements too. Did think of getting built in because want to bake cakes and cookies but realistically, after 1 or 2 times, the novelty wears off and I will just probably leave the oven alone. Built in oven also got microwave type, I think. My new place got a built in oven. According to the sellers, the oven is like new. 10 years never use. So I thought that even if I replace it with new oven, maybe it will also end up 10 years never use. So portable one is good for me. After all, my current microwave is really worth every cent spent. Every day use 5, 6 times. Think got 6-7 years liao.
