lachesis 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 Hubby sprung a big surprise on me yesterday - my very first set of German knives! Whoo hoooo... This is the basic Wusthof Ikon Classic block set. It comes with - 8" Chef's Knife - 6" Utility Knife - 3 1/2 " Paring Knife - Shears - 9" Steel Sharpener Also came with the bamboo Wusthof 8" x 12" chopping board, and a knife sharpener. Picked up the chef's knife and went 'Aaaaaah'. Heh heh. The weight is just right, and the grip feels good in the hand. They look so sexy also! Close up of the logo on the blade of the chef's knife: Close up of the end of the handle: The three lovely knives on the bamboo board: Hmm... all I'm missing now is a Santoku, cleaver and steak knives... Hey hey, Actually they aren't that ex. The block set costs about the same as the Henckel block set at Takashimaya (though the Henckel set comes with more knives), so each Wusthof costs a little more, but are a better buy. Yup, definitely got the 'aaaaaah' feeling. The chef knife is for the CHEF (me). The Santoku is for the SOUS CHEF (the hubby). Heh heh. The Sous Chef has to do more heavy duty cutting (i.e. all the cutting the chef doesn't like to do), so he needs a bigger knife. Mwahaha.

titanax 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2010 very nice! wish i have one as well but none of us cook neither of us cooks on weekdays too, its too tiring to do so after work, thats why we enjoy cooking on the weekends. we both enjoy the AFC channel & its nice to be able cook up new meals, thats why i'm very particular about a practical kitchen this time round. besides preparing a nice meal together is also another way of bonding and spending quality time. Going to invest in cookbooks of a couple of chefs we really like and really expand our repertoire. Especially bake dishes and roasts, as well as desserts (watch a few Nigella cook shows and you'll be itching to make desserts too). So looking forward to using the new sexy kitchen stuff. Heh heh. lachesis 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2010 Counting down to having to move out of Sembawang... 15 days... Two more weekends... We've put in about 5 days of solid packing - back breaking, sneeze inducing (for me) manual labour! - but at least we've done all the rooms, including the much dreaded storeroom/bomb shelter. Last stop - the kitchen. It feels very surreal, watching your life go into little boxes. It's also incredible, the amount of junk you can collect over the years! At last count, we've dumped about 12 bags of stuff (those black garbage bags), given away 5 bags of clothes, 1 bag of shoes, 1 bag of soft toys (my fault for hoarding some of these. heh heh), an old pet crate and two boxes of random items. As we sift through the things, deciding to what to throw (anything you haven't seen/touched in 6 months, that you've probably forgotten about GOES!), what goes into storage and what is still needed, you wonder - do I define the things I want, that make me, well, me? Or is it the other way around - the things I keep define me? Hmm. Either way, this move is a good chance to get rid of clutter, and a chance to start afresh. It's also a bit nostalgic - this was our first home together after getting married, and we've been here for 7 years. A lot of happy memories here - especially of my furbaby Pepper (our mini Schnauzer), who lived with us here for 5 years before she passed. The house looks like a maze with boxes all over now. Two more weekends to go... Time to make some new memories.

The cooking is fun to watch of course, but the drama, oh the drama.. lol.. H'ells Kitchen Season 6 was the best! The hubby is also very inspired to want to cook more - I told him I'll get him a Gordon Ramsey apron to wear. Heh heh heh. Got a lot of Border's vouchers - will make a trip there once the house is almost ready and go on a cook book buying spree!
