The Diary Of A Wimpy House Owner

Recommended Posts

This will be an online journal of our renovation journey. Like everyone else, I have been waiting eagerly for the renovation to start after months of planning and waiting for permits. So eager that i went down to the new house three times on the first day. Luckily i just live 3 mins away from the new house. Will be adding yellow boots and helmet to my shopping list.

First some "before" photos to share

Thanks for the warm welcome. We need the space indeed. With 4 boisterous boys who are always kicking balls in the house and damaging things, we hope they will expand their energy in the garden. We also have a lot of little guests coming for sleepovers. It will be the 2nd Singapore zoological garden with 7 people in the family plus guests especially in the weekends.

Grats on the new house! You can really play ard with the design on a landed property! so much freedom! Envy!

Yeap.. less restriction. We will be extending the back of the second storey to 2m from the boundary wall. Adding a family room, walk in closet and a bigger master bedroom. Will post my layout but have to figure out how to first. Not very techno savvy. :dunno: Maybe will consult my eldest son. :P

Today is the fourth day of the renovation and this is what they have done so far

1) Removed all grills, doors and windows

2) Removed kitchen cabinets and master bedroom wardrobe.

3) Removed some false ceiling and ceiling at the back of the house cos we are doing extension at the back.

4) Laid canvas sheet at staircase and the entire 2nd floor to protect the parquet floor cos we are going to lay vinyl strips.

5) Put up hoardings at the back boundary wall and canvas around the house.

6) Chop off some trees

Will be meeting main con, air con guy and ID tomorrow to discuss about the placement and types of air con to use. Hope to use cassette unit for living and dining area. Not sure if budget allows. Will see tomorrow.

There was a sale for Hansgrohe products at Econflo at Beach Road. Went down to get some stuff. Most of the popular items are 30% off. There's also excess stock from projects at 50% discount. Here's the damage:

First floor guest toilet

1) Raindance E120 set - includes handshower and adjustable shower bar with two soap dish $239

2) Focus E sq shower mixer $152

Second floor kids toilet

1) Wall hung overhead rain shower $655

2) conceal mixer with ibox $397

3) Raindance E porter handshower set $116

4) fix fit $30

For all the toilets, we bought the geberit concealed flushing system. One set cost $350 and the other $380. The set includes geberit dual flush, Actuator and swissfix brackets.

Still couldnt decide on the master bathroom set. Might go again tomorrow.

Day 6

Drop by at noon to check on the progress. Most of the walls on the first floor had been hacked down. Kitchen floor and parts of the living room floor had also been hacked. They were removing the motor of the swing out auto gate and put a padlock on it.

Some photos to show the progress

It has been awhile...Renovation is going on full steam. Here's an update of the things that are done so far:

- Meter box at front gate is almost done. Pipes are all in. Hubby said we should label them which is a good idea. Will instruct contractor to do that.

- One side of Music room wall is up. The platform is now raised concrete floor instead of wooden platform cos contractor mistaken the platform in the music room for the one in the kids room which we have decided to do away. So he didnt quote us for it in the carpentry cost. But he made it up by constructing a concrete one.

- Doing away with toilet in maid's room. Will be using the extra space for shelves in the music room and extra space in the maid's room.

- Wall in the yard is also up. They have level the ground at the water feature area.

- Electrical wiring in Kids room is done, it is ready for carpentry work.

- Walls in kids and masterbed room toilets are done. Doing plumbing work now.

They will be doing the metal roof next followed by the wall of the newly created master bedroom. Will take pictures tomorrow.

Kudos on your landed property, which is a BIG thing in Singapore... but nothing lah in Bolehland :)

Looking at the previous owner's taste..... red toilet bowl and basin in the guest toilet?

Cannot wait for the next set of pix
