My Home Sweet Home @ Amk Ave10

Recommended Posts

Finally, i have settled my reno contractor n i m getting my keys in may.

Yippee.

It is a year long project from searching of property agent to viewing of flat to negogiating with the contractor to now.

But me and my hubby do learn a lot from this compare to our first time buying flat form HDB directly.

A wonderful experience... It is like our baby after months of pregnant n it is coming soon, can't wait to see it.

This is our resale flat in a very bad state. My challange is to turn this old flat to a homely house.

On the 30 April friday, Finally i got the House Key.

ANd the MosT Crucial PeRiod STart(whether we made a good contractor choice or lousy one)

I can only cross my finger and pray hard - EVERYTHING WILL TURN OUT GOOD.

tHE first problem we faced - Reno permit NOT APPROVED(OMG! My buyer for my flat only give me one month extension stay.)

What to do? WAIT ONLY

Until the 3rd day then it is approved. Thank god!( my contractor promised there will be no delay as HACKINg only take 2 - 3 days.)

So the very first day of reno i happy tinking that everything will turn out well......BUT my contractor called they need to change the HACKERs as they r slow in progress. SO I ASK what next - he will look for the new HACKERs( glad that my contractor ntoiced the progress and take the initiative to change the very first day of the reno. BUT i will faint soon if there is so many hiccup to me reno.)

True enough the new hackers take about 2 days to hacker the house.

Forgot to mention my house reno start ~ 7 may.

First day hacking - stop and over the weekend to look for any group of hackers to start work next week.

Start again hacking on the 11 may - 14 may

Laying of tiles on 17 may til now

Went down to view the progress on 18 may, as my contractor Paul promised us that the air con pipes can by install on 20 may.

But the reno worker told as it is unlikely that the air con can be install on 20 may.

Called Paul again - he assured us the air con can install on 20 may.

Went down 19 may, Paul increase the manpower from 3 men working to 5 men working.

So feeling much better after see more ppl working and my air con installation will not delay.

So my husband is at site now "supervise" the work now. I end here cos need to go now to buy the worker some snacks.

here are some photos

Hmm ... hacking requires so many days since 7 May ?

I wonder how common is it for owners to go down to site everyday to supervise the workers ?

Heard from a colleague from China that it is not unusual in China that relatives or family members sit down and watch the workers from the start to end of renovation ....

Start reno on 7 may friday, no hacking over the weekend and also my contractor looking for next group of hackers.

Restart hacking on the 11 may again.

My husband and i can accept the workers to stop and rest a while as their work is more tiring.

I am glad that my husband volunteer himself to supervise the reno and my contractor do keep track on the progress so as to keep up the schedule.

Another hiccup - UNable to install air con toady as the floor tiles not ready. SIGH..........

Luckily my contractor settled with GAin City personally if not there will be a penalty of $150 to change of installation date last minutes.

Need to pray hard that there will be no more delay.

My husband feel that the worker supervisor is very unsatisfied with our contractor. Just pray hard that everything will go smoothly.

I finally move into my place yesterday after a month long reno. Reno still go on, need to touch up a lot..................................

My hubby and me r very satisfied with our contractor. I must say we work along well with him, as far not even a single disagreement.

All the things he promised, he tried his very best to settle for us. (not all thing out well, but can see his effort).

We shifted in all our furniture from our flat to this new flat cos the new owner is shifting in early. So my poor contractor need to shift our furniture from 1 room to another room(cos the subcontractor refuse to start work if the furniture is in the working room. He didn't asked us to help, he suffer himself.

He also included alot of things that is not inside the contract for us without asking us to pay.

All his workers or subcontractors know he never ask his customer to pay more, he only earn less.

He take his initiative to volunteer to coordinate our city gas installation, installation of phone line, installation of air con. (we told him we very busy, he volunteer first. Initially we worried he may not be able to coordinate well. But overall, it is smooth.

Yippee in my new "dusty" flat
