It depends on the size. If it is private landed housing where the gate is used outdoor, I think $950 is quite cheap. In any case, the price of raw materials have also risen substantially. You can always get another 2 more quotes to compare prices before deciding.

Condo unit door should be similar to HDB size... The design of the gates will play a part also... I got my very basic gate with horizontal bars for just 200+ from CNS. You can check out their website: http://cnsmetal.blogspot.com/. They have a showroom in amk.

I have bought few times, and never more than $350. Twice I had to top up cos the condo door is bigger. $950 for condo main door must be very good one.

Believed your developer or MC, has bylaw to choose a limit range of gate, stainless steel S316 is the most costly so far I have ever come across, if those "wrought Aluminuim" @ $950, quickly grasp already lah.
