Professor 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Dear all, It is now my turn to share with you all our renovation process after reading many of the great t-blogs from this forum. Finally, after 3 1/2 years of waiting, we have collected our first flat in mid March and renovation has started currently. I will keep it short & sharp and try to include some information on decision making/selection. We started to our selection of IDs as early as Dec 2009 and finally happily settled down with our current designer, Charlie from KASS Design. We have been through many IDs and the reason we selected him is because he is one of the very few who can draw/sketch very well on the spot just on the paper. This give us alot of confidence on his work as nowadays, not many designers can do that, some even use ruler to sketch........ He can translate his ideas very quickly and able to convince us with his ideas. I would say he is a lighting specialist on creating the 'mood' in the house. The reason we select him is he is flexible to our demands and sincere in providing his work. I would strongly recommend him for those who is interested. This is our original floor plan. Things to take note: i) Addtional 2 way switch to be added near to masterbed room to enable the corridor lights to be off when in the masterbed room. ii) OpenNet conceal trucking to be prepare for 2012 installation, from wet riser to TV console, else next time trucking to be outside. iii) Masterbed toilet door to be change to PD door due to the small space when opening, an exhaust fan to be install to reduce humidity. This is our proposed floor plan. Focus areas are primarily the TV console, walk-in-wardrobe (to have the Heniken effect), and masterbed room. Bedromm 2 will be untouched and use for ironing/exercise or in future baby room. Proposed floor plan with false ceiling. Orientation of the dining table is the other way. Professor 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 Sorry, I am updating this all at once, so you may find it is too fast for you to absorb..... Renovation started on 5th of April and we have used the electrician and a/c installer from the ID. Main reason is because of the works that rendered by them is assured by the ID and also to ease his coordination when using other a/c installer as there is alot of issues when using different installer. Price of the 4 in 1 a/c unit is the same as Gain City and my ID is able to discuss/proposed on how to run the ducting, drain pipes etc. Additional false ceiling is added to cover the ducting except the drain pipe from the living room which is exposed. By the way, I do not know if your ID cover the flooring to protect it, but this is the first time is see ppl doing this addtional work perfectly.... Living room on first day cover up perfectly...... Corridor cover with protective layer Hacking of wall for walk-in-wardrobe on the first day. For those who is doing, no need PE approval for this. Exhaust fan to be added at this window, but still have not finalise how to do it........it is tricky as the water hose is very close to it...... Piping needs to be cover up in the kitchen.... Professor 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 2nd week of renovation, a/c ducting done and the a/c will only be installed after the painting. Electrical wiring has been completed and waiting for the lighting to be install this Friday or Saturday. All the false ceiling and partition has been laid as per today and tomorrow they will start painting the initial coating. Window grills will be installed on all windows and addtional sliding windows & grills will be installed at the service yard. Partition wall completed for the walk-in-wardrobe. Looks small, but luckily we are using the closet design pole system to create the space feel. The reason we selected the closet design is because we feel the quality is much better as compared to others that we seen. The material is from Germany. False ceiling completed at the corridor, addtional material is added at the end of the beam to cover the ducting as proposed by ID. False ceiling for the living room is up and surround speaker cables is route to it. As our living room width is very short, I have used the ceiling speakers as our surround speakers to reduce the space needed to create the surround effect. It also give a WAF (wife-approved -factor) and it can be painted to the same color as your false ceiling. This is proposed by the KEC boss from Aldephi, Clarance and I will provide the details on my entry level home theater systems..... Additional partition wall covering the gap and creating a groove on top to create the 'mood' light. Strongly proposed by ID to cover the gap as it will create an overall feel of a complete wall.... Professor 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 Now, I will update you some of the items that we have bought, almost 95% is completed and storing some of them in our current house.. I will update the electrical items maybe by end of this week as I need to hyperlink those items. All prices that you want to find out for reference can be done via PM. Our sofa from Castilla at their warehouse sale and a great bargain too. Main reason is because it is very comfortable when we sit on it and also we are looking for a 2 sitter with full leather due to the small space we had. Both of us like it very much, although the color does not really match our white & black theme, but we still go for it....... Coffee table from Castilla and it looks sleek to me and it is make of Oak. It is very strong and the salesman stand on it like nobody business, and I like the black wood grain very much....goes well with my bookshelves speakers. Dining table from Lorenzo and it is what we needed, not too big aprrox. 1.4 meters and it is black with black tempered glass. The chairs we selected are also black & white and we got this set at a good buy. Automant (hope I spell correctly) and mini stools from Lorenzo and the color we selected is chillie red. Professor 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 We have purchased all our lightings from Litch lightings as recommended by ID for reliable services at reasonable prices and quality. If you all are using clove lighting, use T8 instead of T5 as it last longer and cheaper to change. We did not manage to see any hanging lights that we like, hence we decided to purchase elsewhere. My wife manage to view from the website of sembawang lightings and they have alot of pictures for viewing before going down. Nice ppl in the shop when we visited and straight away we found our hanging light and the price is reasonable too! Sorry for the blurry pictures.....taken by my kan chiong wife..... too happy liao... When the led light is on...... When the main light is on, different effect on the hanging light. You can have also both of the led and main light on too. Next is on our master toilet sink and tap.....my wife like to wash her face like bathing, splashing all over the place. Hence, I decided to change and purchase a bigger basin to accomodate her. Professor 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) I have purchase 2 good quality Bidet which is light and durable and remember to purchase around 10 3 or 4pcs of the shut off valve to be installed before every water our point to isolate incase of leakage or servicing. (Correction: Most of the water points are retrofitted with the shut off valve, only the sink and water storage heater is needed. Sorry on the wrong information) Very cheap only, $2 per pc and the shop that I went to purchase the sink, hob & hoob, heater etc is very reasonable as he is one of the dealers...and I would strongly recommend too if you looking for one. Last but not least, the sink that we purchased comes with the complete set including the tap. Sorry that the picture taken looks dark....it is a matt finish sink and we like it alot. Additonal item that we are eyeing in this coming mid year sale at Taka, the Nepresso and it is simple to use and maintain....... If you guys are small family and loves coffee, should purchase this as long term investment, impress by the milk preparation...
