How To Restore Tarnished Door Handles?

My main door handle and lockset is in bad condition, and it will cost in excess of $800 to replace such a mortise lockset.

Any ideas on how to salvage?

Looks like a Balwin lockset?

If it's solid brass, then can use autosol cream and remove the tarnish. Actually, I find a bit of aging looks more mature.

If it's plated, then no hope liao.

I must say it didnt age gracefully, all the little dots makes it look like skin disease :X

I guess no harm trying with autosol/brasso to see if it helps, thanks!

Yes brasso and autosol will do the job but you have to flex your muscle a lot to make it look good or you can use a handy polisher (dremel with a polish pad and cream) will make the job easier.

Both autosol and brasso do not work on plated finishing material to give a shinning surface.

Brasso works on brass or bronze material where it do not have a layer of protective coat.

If you use Brasso or autosol to polish your plated lockset without finishing it with a protective coat,

your lockset rust faster.
