Eurypylus 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 Need all of your expertise here. What are the things we have to look out for in rewiring and hidden cost involved? What is the purpose of PUB testing? Does it mean an electrician without EMA cert cannot apply for PUB test? What is the purpose of earth bonding? And how do we define as good or bad The prices ranges are too wide. Why are some electricians charging rocket sky prices when rewiring is a standard job. ps for asking so much questions. The wiring system, ring circuit or parallel circuit. Nowadays new hdb flat use ring circuit, but older flat may still have parallel circuit. While both works the same in operation, ring circuit allow you to have spruce(not sure if I spell this right) meaning you may tap another lighting point or power point more easily. Then due to that ring circuit will cost more cable to be used, price may be higher. The size of cable used 1.5mm for lighting, 2.5mm for power, 4mm for water heater.... these are standard cable size used, if not PUB will not approve it. Cable insulation... this is standard as well, as the PUB tester will come with his "mega tester" to check insulation. Cheap non BS standard with thin insulation may cause the insulation to melt when heavy load is used, and may cause fire.
Tech_wizard 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 Hope you guys dont mind if I share my views. Actually there is nothing wrong with comparing price, but when doing so the person may also want to take into consideration on the services provided usually if their service is not good why would people recommend them in the OPEN forum. As to say only young people do price comparsion is actually not correct, it is done in all ages. I think why some owners are getting prices from the recommended contractor from the forum is to get their main-con to match or reduce price mainly because they would the main-con to be responsible for the entire project. My advice to those who have this intention is to get a verbal quote from the forum vendors instead of making them go down all the way especially when you know you wont be awarding them the job. No wrong to get good prices to save your hard earned money but just be fair to others who put in time and effort for you. PS - No offence intended.

If u want PUB inspection mean that u need to engage a LEW to do the wiring, diagram and submit the application to SP services for inspection date. 1st time free, if failed the inspection, the next time asking them to inspect will be charged a fee. Normally ask for inspection is for whole house re-wiring, but for a point only, yes u can ask for it.....if u think worth it.Hi,Is it a MUST to do PUB test for whole house re-wiring? Thks.
