Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

Here's my idea for my retirement home...

I've 2 young kids ages 0 and 1 at the moment and I'm 27 this year...

Pls refer to floorplan...

Entrance

1. Break up the storeroom and have a built-in shoe cabinet and a water feature at the entrance space.

Kitchen

2. Break up the kitchen wall, have a door in place instead of the usual opening.

3. Have a counter cum dining table built... (have not thought of what material would be best)

4. The seats would be cushioned benches that can push under the table when not in use to save space.

5. There will be a centre glass divider from the counter/table right up to the ceiling.

6. There will be a 4 panel sliding glass that will open up to both sides showing the full dining table.

7. Dining table should be able to sit 6 large adults.

8. Have not thought much about the kitchen insides.... Just that there will be cabinets for sure and a utility area at the back for washing

TV room

9. Make a TV room with 4 sliding door that will open up to both sides. The panel on the outside will be full length mirrors.

10. Custom made lounge chairs on both sides with width of twin size mattress which can double up as guestroom or daybed..

More to come..... will update later. Pls give your comments

continued...

TV Room

11. The TV room would feature a 40" LCD TV which by the time, would probably be something better..

12. The 'X' at the left bottom corner is a built-in display cabinet for CDs, DVDs, players etc..

13. Sound system for a theatrical experience is a must!

14. The lounge should comfortably take 9 large adults..

15. This space can be a family camp night place too!

16. Have not thought about flooring.. maybe laminated wood.... suggestions?

From the corridor to the playarea... was thinking of putting a sliding door so the play area can be air-conditioned since it does not have any windows.

Playarea

17. Have a raised platform that can double up for a large storage drawer underneath...

18. This area will house all the slide and toys the kids already have now...

19. When they grow bigger it could be turned into something else... like a second sitting room...

Original bedroom 2

20. Move the wall in... to make the play area more spacious...

21. I've measured enough space to put a queen size bed and built in cabinet at the side where the shape of the wall is not flat.. Still have lots of space left despite making the room smaller..

22. No air-condition for all the bedrooms except master..

Main bedroom

23. Create partition for walk-in wardrobe at the entrance for privacy...

24. No change to the size of the main bedroom...

25. Will be air-conditioned

Original bedroom 3

26. Built-in cabinets...

27. Wall is moved in... to make space for the play area too

28. Room can fit queen sized bed...

29. Some space left for a desk or dressing table

Original study/bedroom

30. Entrance is changed.

31. Original sliding door to be removed.

32. This would be the largest common room... Able to fit even a king size bed..

33. Built-in cabinets as well...

2 additional rooms

34. There will be two additional rooms made out of a half glass wall. Half partition half glass with roller blinds...

35. The glass wall allows light from the windows into the play area during the day...

36. At night, the roller blinds will work its magic...

37. Plus this is the designated kids room...

38. There will be built-in cabinets one facing each side...and the cabinets are through... the kids can crawl from one room to the other...

39. These are the smallest bedrooms meant to hold only single size bed and desk..

40. Still some space left...

Other remarks

41. Ceiling fans for all bedrooms....

42. Should my parents and parents-in-law can no longer look after themselves when they are old, they can move into our apartment... Hence the many rooms..

43. When we become old, plan to rent out some of the rooms for my retirement income...

Like my idea? Pls give your inputs. Thanks!

The floor plan looks a lot like my current flat's floor plan but it's a 5-room. This is an EA?

Where is it located, if I may ask?

My only comment, is that the living/dining/play area will look kind of dark because there are limited windows.

So there's ltd natural light streaming in. That's what happening to my living/dining area.

It's cosy but you need to on the light almost the whole day to make it bright enough.

Hi thanks for looking here! This is in pasir ris.

The two small rooms will have glass walls to allow light to pass through during the day.

Since u mentioned it will look dim, i might consider having glass walls for bedroom 2 and 3 too since i am moving the walls.

Welcome to RT! your flat layout looks nice! spacious. :dribble:

Hi, thanks for your comment. I was telling my husband I'll reduce the bedroom size to that of a condo... so the room's meant for its basic purpose of sleeping and quiet reading, no accumulated junk or anti social activities...

So everything has to be done outside together...

When it's a hot day then we can all sleep in the master bedroom for a family night. Else, the fan should do for the bedrooms... plus fans have better ventilation and better for growing kids.

I wonder how much the glass walls will cost. Budget to spend about 50K on reno..

For much shifting of walls and create walls will cost quite a bit as need to apply license and need HDB appoval before hacking of walls.

If your wall electical wires were in built then will be harder to hack walls too.

From the looks on ur budget it wont be enough though.

Thanks for your input! Just exploring the possibility... Will have to source around for quotes when the time comes...
