My floor plan had a services plan diagram indicating the path of the various services.

My gas was never turned on before in my unit so when I called City Gas, they told me that someone had to come down and the fee was $35.

Apparently turning on costs money but turning off doesn't (it's kinda funny sometimes). However, removal of the gas pipe extension into your home costs money. So when I took over the flat from the previous owner, I did not "take over" the utilities from them. Instead, I emailed SP to faciliate the removal of the gas pipe extension as I had no need for SP gas :D So there was no charge to me because all I did was ask them to help me turn on the water, which is not chargeable. I think the previous owner was charged for the removal of gas pipe extension though

That means you are currently using LPG cylinders instead ? I always wondered what are the advantages of using those delivered LPG cylinders vs piped gas ?

imho, yes. but i only use level 2. there are 6 levels for my induction cooker.

lvl 1 is useful to keep warm, lvl 2 is for general cooking. i can cook a cup of water in about 15 seconds at level 2.

I don't think you need to get the LPG cylinder at the same time. You have to pay for the hose & regulator when you purchase the first cylinder, there is also a deposit for this first unit. I paid $43 for the regulator, $10 for the hose, $20 for the deposit & $26 for the first 12.7kg cylinder.

To remove the gas pipe, SP charges $50.

But flame has its disadvantages:

1. safety concern

2. cooking equipment turns black

3. health concern

4. more oil vapours produced leading to higher maintenance

5. makes your kitchen feel warm

6. not portable

most pots can be used for induction nowadays, even claypots :D
