My Fresh Start

Recommended Posts

hi d'lotus, thanks! lots of the art and knick knacks at home have been collected through the years... it will come for you too! and yes, you'll find lots of things to change/add on the longer you stay in your place. been lucky with jerome, he's agreed to do a lot of additional stuff for me FOC, like shelves that were not in the original design, drawers etc. am still in the lookout for some art for the bedroom wall, the entry way and the dining area.... oh, and I travel lots for work and can pick up small things here and there too!

I travel lots too in my work... but I'm BANNED from getting anything for the home (those ting-ting-tiang-tiangs)... wifey and I have different taste... always clash... in the end... those things I get will be in boxes and headache... where to keep/store them.... Now, I just let her decide everything... so, when things go wrong... it's not my bloody decision/problem. But the AV console and system and study room (converted from the stupid bomb shelter - frankly, who the heck would wanna 'bomb' Singapore... and who's benefitting from this... [read... who supplies the door to the bomb shelter... no prizes for the guessing the correct answer]).... is MY BABY / PERSONAL SPACE!!!

haha... but buying stuff overseas is so much better coz lotsa times they're cheaper, and more unique! Thnk the balance between accumulating kitchy clutter and decorating is very hard to do though... often what looks good in a store looks weird at home! luckily hb and i have almost similar tastes (dark wood, antique, bold colours) so it's not that big an issue... we've compromised on the photographs as he doesn't like them in the living room while i do!

so... who supplies the door of the bomb shelter ? hehehe ;)

Hi freshpoison,

Got the table from Pasardina in Dempsey road. Paid $1600 for them, bit more expensive, but quality is much better than the others I've seen (except for Ohmm but that was wayyyyyyyyy too expensive! For the same size they were asking for $3500!!) Look for Bob or Doreen.

The bamboo decking was done by Style line, spoke to Tiffany, her number is +65 9787 1080. For the entire decking plus removable sleeves at the planter I paid $2300.

Hi, can i check for ur bamboo decking, did you check with the person in charge if the rain comes in, will the bamboo decking be able to withstand water frm coming in? will it spoil in the long run?

she said it can withstand the rain. I also got a small piece from her and soaked it in water for 2 days then put under the sun, no cracks or warps.

Thanks!! I love the timeless look of wooden furniture, doesn't age and look dated.

yeah, that mirror i bio for a long long time.... then cannot find the same kind (could also be because in my heart that was the one I really wanted) so bit the bullet and bought it liao... my justification is that even if I move again, I should still be able to use it for many years to come!

but will thr be a possibility that water will slip into the decking? and do we have to do maintainance to the decking frequetly? is chengai or bamboo more ex? which is better?

don't really know but most wood is porous, so I would expect some seepage but so far after 3 months I've not noticed any issues. They will recommend an oil which you have to put say twice a year.... you're welcome to come look at mine if you wan to see it first hand.

not sure about the price of chengai.... when I was sourcing for decking I only looked at teak and bamboo...

the decking is laid on top of wooden beams, not directly onto the floor... the part by where the planter is is also removable, so any issues I can see from there.

Hi there mate,

Long time. Your place looks really exquisite. Very classy and tastefully done. Without any shame I'm gonna invite myself over for a looksie with the wifey and brats (maybe not the brats in-case they break summat) and you can give me the low down abt Jerome and his expertise.

Take care.

Gerard

hey hey.... rarely on msn these days but if i'm on line give me a buzz and we can plan for a visit! Thanks for the compliments... you saw I kept the rug? tempted to buy more for the bedroom and study, but no time for now, travelling too much (writing to you from Jakarta, in Manila next week!)

And your kids are welcome... the house is meant to live in, not look at so I get friends to bring their kids for dinners/craft times all the time!
