patsy_sg 1 Report post Posted March 8, 2010 welcome to RT-blog ... seem like I'm the 1st to welcome u Thanks Simon, been reading your blog, your son is super cute!! Ur place looks big, got 2 balconies? Hi gals_mama, it's actually not that big, the balcony behind is part of the yard, which I plan to use as my wet kitchen (it's the reason I bought the place!) It's actually not a ground floor unit, but the yard + balcony was the reason I got the place, even if the bedrooms are a little bit small. Have been reading your blog, I love the look of wood too! Looking for a dining table now, saw one in John Erdos but it's sooooooooo expensive!

Looking for a dining table now, saw one in John Erdos but it's sooooooooo expensive! Just checked the John Erdos website. You're right, quite ex! Have you been to The Shophouse at Gillman? They've got quite nice wood pieces there too. But prices may be of same range as Erdos. I think they cater more for expats cuz the owner is an ang-moh. I was considering buying some dining chairs there a few years back, but then we drove down the road a little bit and came across Mirage Teak House. Prices were like more than 50% cheaper but of course quality cannot compare lah..... Got a teak side cabinet from them too but there's mould in a few places and the varnishing is quite bad. Natural Living also has some nice wood pieces. Try the Park Mall outlet and look for Azizah, she was the one who gave me $1,000 discount on the bed! I got my 2m x 1m dining table from a Barang2 warehouse sale. Really, really love it cuz it looks **** solid and expensive, heh heh. But I'm so careless so now there's like hot pot stains on the surface. Not to mention scratches but I suppose that's what gives it character Am planning to re-varnish the surface and protect it with cut glass but in two minds about it If $$ permit, may change my dining chairs too cuz quite uncomfortable to sit on it after a while. But may go for non-wood, modern design just to spice things up a little

I was looking for a glass top table with solid wood legs, really hard to find! am also trying to go with a new look this time around, less cluttered! More of a modern wood theme... lots of white, and dark wood, except for the sofa, which i've just had re-upholstered to deep burgundy red!!! i would leave your table, scratches and all, makes it look "lived in" and comfy! just got a quote from my ID, 15k for some minor carpentry and painting... seems a bit ex for a brand new condo? patsy_sg 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2010 need the advice of the experts here.. I'd like to have ceiling to floor cabinets to cover the entire lenght of the wall from the balcony area to near the entrance, do you guys think it would cramp up the place if I use white shiny laminates? Be nice to have all that storage space although it would go against my new motto of NO MORE HOARDING!
Amy Choon 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2010 Hello & welcome! I think full height cabinets is really going to cramp up the place. have you considered if there will be ample space for your dining table in your dining room, and sofa plus coffee table in your hall? patsy_sg 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2010 hi merydith, that's what a friend of mine said too.. especially since the dining table i'm eyeing is 1800 X 90 cm.... and it's quite bulky looking even with a glass top! Will maybe just have to look for a console table or hutch. Another question, if i intent to put a stainless steel sink in the yard, plus a small cooking area, will it be ok if i just painted the walls or would i need to tile it up for eaiser maintenance? is there any waterprool paint that i can use? Depends on what you're planning to do? For $18.5K (which is on the high side, I must admit straight off), I'm doing: - TV feature wall + TV console - Dining feature wall - Ceiling works (false ceiling, L-box) for living/dining and master bedroom - loft bed+bay bed for kids bedroom - study table, drawers and top hung cabinets in kids bedroom - laminate all bay windows - painting whole house (max 7 colours) using Nippon

Be nice to have all that storage space although it would go against my new motto of NO MORE HOARDING! That's sounds like a very long cabinet and it will cost a lot. More importantly, some IDs, including mine, say that glossy white laminates will give a wavy effects no matter how good the workmanship is. But some forumers who have use such laminates don't seem to have a serious problem. I am hoping that my kitchen cabinets which are using glossy white laminates will turn out well. Mickey M 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2010 yeah.. will cost a bomb so will scrap the idea! Hi patsy_sg, First of all, congrats! I love your floorplan. Balcony! Anyway, I think it will look gd though. It depends on the design. I imagine it will be a mixture of open shelves and some with doors. And since you loves wood, I think wood laminates will look gd also, with the wood grain running horizontally across. White curtains and a bright colored sofa will end it off nicely. Flooring is cement screed or white homo tiles. Hee. My opinion la.
