gals_mama 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2010 Thou difficulty in selecting id or conrtactor, we are happy looking ard for furnitures and electrical stuff. Went down to S & C Furniture at amk. Oh my! so many catalogues to look at and choose! The lady was nice and told us that its better to get furnitures when the colour scheme, layout and measurements are ready from the reno. We should be getting our dining table + chairs, coffee table, study chair from them. For sofa, we still think that to see a physical set and to sit and feel is better to judge. gals_mama 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 Some updates, tomorrow we are going for the 1st appt fpr the purchase of the amk flat. As my sis is also doing up her place, we gave her contractor our fl plan and got him to quote. Suprisingly, his estimated quote is much higher than the last ID we met. Abt 3k more. He also said that the price that the ID quoted was very low. Some even near to cost price. That makes us worried, ID quoted so low, means quality will be low too? Initially i tot my reno not very major so should be ard 25k but looks like its not going to be.
gimz63251073 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 if your reno is too rushed, it could mean the following: 1. u have no time to shop around and end up paying more for household appliances 2. contractor give sub standard work and u have to accept becos u want to move in (and yes, they know it!) 3. u may not be able to achieve your desired layout/feel as furniture and lightings may be out of stock. U might have to weigh your options to see which is more important. any layout for your hotel theme? i think its a very nice theme to have. For hotel theme: http://mkelectric.com.my/images/stories/mk...ant%20Hotel.pdf If you are really into the theme.
advancer 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 hi gals mama, I also purchased a resale flat recently and got a similar kind of layout (4NG door to door). I am keeping the flooring and kitchen cabinet. Haven't check out any ID yet, hope to spend less than 20k. I do agree the bathrooms are very small, so my intention is to hack the MBR toilet wall and extend it outwards into the MBR. Also like to have hotel toilet See if u can give me any idea here....

Cos i think always air-conditioned the whole day plus carpet. We are trying to get minimalist cum cosy style. I think the lights in the house can also help to achieve the hotel feel. We are actually looking for a place to put up for abt 2 to 3 weeks so that the reno need not be too rush. Also been looking ard for furnitures so that it would be a rush. Once my FSM confirms the layout of furnitures, i should be able to confirm whether to get ID or contractor.

Looking for ID is much tougher than i expected. I also want to bring the sink out to the MBR so that i can have a vanity top and a shower screen in the toilet. But i think subjects to HDB approval. Will definite share share the ideas with all here.
gals_mama 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 Updates again. FSM went up to our new place. So far its ok to change the MBR door and the vanity sink can be shifted out (subject to HDB approval). The colours suitable for us are als quite the cosy colours and acceptable. The only thing he said cant was no black in the kitchen. So no black dining tables and the induction hob that i am eyeing. My agent also recommended a ID cum contractor to look at our place. So told him what I want to do and he will do a quote for us. Finally can settle more things for the house and not just sit and wait. We also went to a few lighting shops along balestier rd. Saw the alpha bb fan. Nice will get it for my gals room. I think the pricing at lighting.com.sg are quite cheap. So most likely will get our lights from there.
gals_mama 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) Had my try using floorplanner. Quite fun but not so good on the measurements. Still, can visualise more on the layout of things. Edited May 4, 2010 by gals_mama
gals_mama 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2010 Met up with the 1st id we met in Jan/Feb (too long to remember). The revised quote he gave was 9k over our budget. So told him to go relook and see if can lower further. To date, we have talked to 4 ids and 2 contractors. The reason why we kept to this particular id is that we were comfortable with him. Even mu hubby who is not easy to deal with, I felt comfortable with the id and most of all he can keep to the deadline given. Now the most impt factor is $$$. Hopefully the quote can be further lowered.

blueocean 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2010 hi .. we have tried obtaining quotations from the ID R&R and seems that it is usually on the higher side. We ended up choosing another ID because of the quote and were more comfortable with him. When renovations started after much delay, we realised that being comfortable with the ID person does not necessary translate to less heartache. Lesson learned is that past project references the ID person has done is more important so that you can verify his co-ordination, supervision ability and subcon's workmanship .... gals_mama 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2010 Hi Gal_mama, Glad to come across yr T blog.. so which ID have u choosen? WIsh u luck on yr reno! Hi! so nice to pop by here. Haven choose. Will be meeting urs this coming sat. She sounds nice and said will accomodate within our budget. Keep my fingers crossed. I also going to meet with Darren from Plush Living. But got a feeling that they cant fit into our budget. Then e id that my sis's id recommend didnt meet us as arranged. said got to be at hse for handover. Informed us just hours before. How can it be possible? Last min then decide to hand over? So i asked him to email us the quotation, said ok ok but 3 days already still no news from him. Sighz... told my husband that even this id gives us the lowest quote i also wouldnt take. Send him msg, takes ages to reply, ask for things, didnt deliver, cant make it, gave excuses. How is ur reno going?
