Toa Payoh Blk 79 Kakis

Recommended Posts

Before I moved in, I heard many rumors that the heartland shops in front of Blk79 (or shall we start to call it Central Horizon now...) will be demolished in 5 years time to make way for new developments - among which is a pedestrian mall where the main road used to be. The source for these rumours came from housing agents and even from some of the operators of the heartland shops. I was quite concerned then as it would mean noise and air pollution in the years ahead.

However, this morning as I was having breakfast at the Food Park, I suddenly took notice of the big Upgrading notice in front of the Blk177 Goreng Pisang Coffeshop. It must have been there for a while already, but for some reason, I have never paid much attention to it. The big signage listed several blocks slated for the upgrading, but the polling date is still left empty. Has anyone seen this before? Does this means that the shops won't be torn down anymore??? :jawdrop:

Hi Gadgetman,

Yes I too heard about the big plan to revamp the area, closing up the road infront ,etc. But it seems the plan never really took off I suppose, I think that plan was also made public few year ago. But those 4-storey shop/flats have been around for ages, looks kind of out-dated as well in a good retro kind of way. Brings to mind those retro shop houses in Queenstown before they demolished them.

My guess is that they may get to vote for some cosmetic upgrading in the coming months. It will be quite sad if they were to demolish them to build another run of the mill shopping centre!

:)

Hi guys,

went to SPSERVICES at Toa Payoh Hub and show them my bill. The girl at the counter said it is weird too (a huge increase from janaury).

I told them it is not just my unit affected. She said we have to report individually to spservices for this matter. Everyone affected can go down to spservices or give them a call to inform them. They will be sending a technician to my house soon.

Hi Tweakmax,

As reported earlier, the increase could simply be due to unrealistic estimated meter readings for the earlier months. When the actual reading comes in, the bill will naturally shoot up due to the necessary adjustments to reflect the actual usage. You will probably want to stick to your normal usage pattern and wait out for the next 1 - 2 months to have a more realistic picture.

I jumped when i saw my $300 bill in February and immediately stopped using the dryer! But then I realised that this will only skew the readings for the next month...so now back to normal usage...

I don't mind them closing the 2 roads t0 make way for more shops (or even a park) but keep those shop houses as they are now.

Hi alister,

I may intend to extend and fix another SVC point on the opposite side of the living room (just in case I feel like switching the position of the TV set), does that mean I will be charged extra by Starhub? I'm not subscribing to their cable programmes, just normal free-to-air stuff will do for me.

For me, I had my point extended to the opposite wall of the living room as well by my contractor. As I am an existing starhub customer, I was not charged the last time.

I juz called up starhub to clarify, depending on how ur contractor pull the cables for u, there might be a charge of $85.60.

Best to call 68732828 to clarify.

Hi all neighbours,

For those who lay granite and marble, the haulage / sand guys actually requested for $50 extra on top of the stated $900 / $1100, you can actually request them to return the $$$. Apparently this is a practice but NOT in the contract for block 79 projects. I just got my $50 back.

Also, for those who did not tiled up the entire house, seems like you can negociate with them as you do not need that much sand. Need not pay the stipulate $900 / $1100.

For those who have yet to do their reno, you may want to get your id to nego or check with TC.

anyone are into amplifier? want to buy a better home theatre system for my home. anyone heard of JBL, Bose Wharfedale etc?

Hi Coco Mybibi,

I am intending to get a home theatre set at KEC at adelphi. It comes with recommendation from my wife's brother, bro-in-law and my fren. I had checked out their home theatre sets and it is not bad. u might wanna pop by in the shop... think they might give more expert opinions in home theatre sets. there are also other shops in adelphi so u can ask around to get a better idea on the kind of home theatre sets u looking for.

actually calling starhub to clarify no use. I believe they wont anyhow charge but rather call ur contractor to clarify about the points they shifted is it cable ready. Cos they shifted and promise it to be cable ready and if it turns out other wise, dun think it is right you pay 100-120 for the shift already. I'm gonna check with my contractor already later.
