alister 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Yup, I have read that thread before and it's almost "dead" to me. The resident who started a blog engaging Substance also have not been updating her blog since last year. Perhaps something happened somewhere...She has shaked her head, argued with them and gave up on her ID.Alister, I have yet to open up the boxes... Will they be able to get me the right bracket if I just provide them with the model number? No. I tried asking them that, but since it's a generic one, they are not able to provide the answer. alister 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Hope it is not the feng sui issue. BTW have she replaced the tap?No lah. Those who chose this firm does have some issues. Is up to individual if they can accept it.I understand the ID is very very busy. Most of the time didn't drop by the unit. So when their workers do something wrong, it's the owner who finds the fault, not the ID.She had water pipe burst in the kitchen during reno b'cos the workers hack a hole where the pipes run. Some of the forummers here are using them. Maybe they can give better feedback.

TPY 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Hmm... With that comment, really have to think twice before engaging them liao. I am not joking, in the past there was an accidence where the contractor un-intentionaly burst the gas pipe. as during renovation, owner don'tturn on the gas supply thus the hazard is left un-discovered.It was only discovered when lifes are gone as the owner moved in and with the gas turn on leaking bit by bit during the night..... causing poisoning. As gas are suppose to be odourless, pub purposely put a purgent smell to make it detectable. But too bad is the leak gas is too little and it is hide behind the kitchen cabinet. The stinge of carpentry work smell actually cover the gas purgent. So sad story. So better beware. gadgetman 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Wa .. all the piping are label in blue and red how can miss out like that? Imagine if they burst the yellow gas pipe! How? life in danger. The red and blue markings are very deceiving...it is really just "agar-agar" one. The actual pipes could be quite a distance from the markings. Some contractors have a portable metal detector to locate the pipes, but I understand that even this is not foolproof because don't forget that there are also other metellic things like the iron beams hidden in the wall. It is really a "heng suay" situation. The installation guys for my dryer wanted me to absolved them of all responsibility if I like them to proceed with the mounting - and this is even after they have scanned the area with a detector and have cleared it! My aircon installers also kenna my water pipe and had to weld it back...so it really depends on your luck. But what is more important is that the ID should be transparent and let the owner know if such a thing has indeed happened. I personally cannot stand cover-ups and lies - I would be even more furious when I find out the truth later on!

Life danger is concerned in this case? The reason why people install electrical heater and uses order tank must have it's reason especially for conceive piping like 79. Life danger is concerned in this case? The reason why people install electrical heater and uses order tank must have it's reason especially for conceive piping like 79.Sorry for not being clearer in my post...the "agar-agaring" is done by HDB. The red and blue tapes are fixed on by them...not the ID! So better beware. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think it works a bit differently for the gas pipes. There is a main outlet at the top corner of the kitchen. Additional piping are then run from there upon confirmation of the positions of the gas outlets (such as the Hob, water heater point and the dryer point for example). So there is very little risk of bursting the gas pipe. In any case, when Citygas come to perform the gas turn on at the final stage, the technician will test for leaks in the pipe to ensure that everything is OK....I think in the case above, the reno could have been done on a resale unit whose gas pipes may be concealed by existing fittings. But for our new units, the pipings are only run externally in accordance to our interior design plans.... Edited February 26, 2008 by gadgetman

How? life in danger.I think the blue & red label was removed. That reminds me, suggest all those who are renovating to take a picture of it. Juz in case in future u need to build a cabinet or drill hole there, can refer back to the pictures. This will ensure no accidental bursting of water pipe.Sorry for not being clearer in my post...the "agar-agaring" is done by HDB. Less pipes means less chances of bursting.

soudezne 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) I'm thinking of getting an instant heater for MBR toilet and use the the storage heater for the common toilet since it free and there will be less usage in the common toilet. In this way, it can reduce some unnecessary cost too. Anyone doing that?In addition, my ID was suggesting to box up the pipe in the kitchen ceiling costing $350! Are there any purpose for it? since the kitchen cabinet will be able to hide it... hmmm.... Edited February 26, 2008 by soudezne
Mapleleaf 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Hi Mapleleaf,Cost issue? what are some of the brands that you went to check out and the cost?? went to the web, ariston is selling around 2K for a 4 pot top. 2 big 2 small. I find the power consumption is not that high eventually 6KW total. Some more we dun cook and use all 4 pot altogether. So was looking into it quite abit. In the web there are lots of good things said about induction. Only haven have someone's real life experience. I think only the pots and pans are abit expensive coz need metal (ferrous) magnetic capable utensil then can use induction. Care to share some of your consideration and cost concerns?ThanksGas hobs are approx $500 - $800 so of coz Induction is more expensive. The quotes I got are almost 2 years old - but I remembered they were in the $1.5K to $2K+ range. The issue of power consumption wasnt high on my list but utensils were. But the point that swayed me towards gas hobs was that I don't know anybody who has one and is able to share his/her experience with me. yup, I am hardly the adventurous sort. BTW, anyone bought a 2-in-1 washer-dryer? Am wondering if clothes can be 100% dry.
