Just want to check and confirm, can we hack the toilet wall tiles? I know toilet floor tiles cannot hack.

btw, just heard from an uncle that PE approved doesnt meant HDB approved.. even if PE says can hack, also need to submit the document to HDB for approval.. only upon approval then can start hacking...

initially i thought PE was HDB ppl... hehe guess i was wrong... to those who is ignorant like me... hope this info helps

Thanks! Got a unit in blk 79C - 5 rm. Hope to move in mid / end March as Reno just started. Getting mt reno plan to be approved by HDB is a real pain.

This place is good. At least we get to know some of our neighbour b4 we move in.....

Building Works - Removal of toilets wall and floor tiles

3-year restriction period on removal of toilets wall and floor tiles provided by HDB

The toilets in your flat come with wall and floor tiles. As the toilets are designed to be wet areas, a waterproofing membrane has been laid on the cement screed before laying the floor tiles. This is to prevent water from leaking through the ceiling of the flat immediately below your flat.

Hence,flat owners are not allowed to replace the toilet floor and wall tiles provided by HDB for a period of 3 years. Flat owners may however lay new toilet floor finishes over the existing floor finishes using adhesives.

Previously, this 3-year restriction period commenced from the date of key collection. From 1 April 2005, the 3-year restriction period will commence from the completion date of the block. This relaxation will allow flat owners greater flexibility to blend in their renovation works with the interior decor of their flats.

I have to comment abit abt design profession. If you wanna get them, PLEASE PLEASE go n take a look at their workmanship b4 u decide. Their price no doubt is on the cheaper side... but their quality and workmanship is also on the lousier side... i am strongly against taking them... but then again.. it is ur call... this is just my personal opinion...

Need ur feedback/advise/opinion on the following:

1. Planning for kitchen and tot of doing tinted glass backing for the wall in between the counter top and top cabinet. I do heavy cooking and a friend advise that its difficult to maintain. So is glass backing better or stainless steel mirror finish better?

2. The solid surface for kitchen counter top comes in many brands so should i get CORIAN brand or other brands will do....

3. A friend mentioned that to do a solid surface for kitchen top it is advisable to do the kitchen structure (internal) in cemented hollow block structure/ concrete structure to prevent it from collapsing as the solid is heavy and I do heavy cooking so to prevent it from corrode.

4. I would like to place the hood higher than the standard or usual height and then purchase a good hood with high suction power. Is it advisable?

5. Any recommendations on the brands for Hob and Hood?

Do u do heavy cooking? Then perhaps granite is better.

Light colour Solid surface cannot take heat. Put a hot wok on top will leave "burn" mark. Colour changes over time too.

Dark colour solid surface will have "cut" mark easily. Put knife on top and then u have to pick it up more carefully then picking up diamond. That's what ID told me... someone correct me if the ID is wrong

But if u do light cooking then no prob la

granite scares of water, solid surface scares of heat...

but Icylim is correct to say that for heavy cooking, granite is better...

but then again, I do heavy cooking.. but i chose solid surface.. coz nicer and i felt there will be more water running around the kitchen, as compared to "hot pot"..
