hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Pre-Reno Photos (Living Room) Main Entrance The gate and main door is rather old school. We will be replacing them with wrought iron gate and veneer main door. Living Room All the windows in the house will be replaced with white casement windows. After much deliberation, we decided not to do any window grilles for our viewing pleasure of the surrounding. The aircon seen here is new, so it will remain. The floor tiles are those old ceramic tiles and will be replaced with homogeneous tiles. In fact, we quite like the living room because it is quite spacious and with so many panels of windows. I like my house to be filled with sunlight... Edited March 16, 2010 by hongwen37
hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2010 TWO LCD TVs??? Ex or not? The LG borderless design looks great leh..... We got the Samsung LCD TV (32" and 40") at around 1.8k... Quite reasonable i guess. Oh, so did you buy the LG TV? All those LED or borderless TVs look pretty great but too ex for us. Wait till a few years later when new technology emerge (3D TV maybe?), then maybe we can afford to change to LED borderless... haa.

hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Pre-Reno Photos (Kitchen) Kitchen with a Little View Funny how the kitchen is a big contrast to the rest of the house because i think the previous owner renovated the kitchen alone. So, the tiles and cabinets all looked pretty modern... Even the rubbish chute looked very new and was not those old school, budging out kind. The wall was plastered!!! But, after much thought (as usual!), we decided to change the tiles for the kitchen because there were some stubborn stain on the tiles and more importantly, we did not really like the look and texture of the tiles. The cabinets will be replaced too. We prefer it to be not suspended. The right side of the wall at the Kitchen entrance will be hacked to make the entrance looks bigger, as well as make the kitchen into an "open concept" one. But, because we installed aircon in the living room, we will be doing up a glass panel and sliding glass door at the entrance to prevent the aircon from "escaping" the living room, and to retain the "open concept" feel of the kitchen... Yah.. and we did not intend to do any tiles for kitchen wall, and since the wall is already plastered, we can save a bit of plastering cost (i got quote for plastering and it can be quite expensive to plaster the whole kitchen) We will not be having any top cabinets and hood because we deduced we will not be cooking that much, so we decided to keep the kitchen as "open" as possible. Since there are no kitchen wall tiles, we will be installing a full height glass backing at the hob area for easy maintenance after we cook. hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Pre-Reno Photos (Master Bedroom) View from the Master Bedroom Storeroom (to be hacked) Current Study Room The Storeroom will be hacked to combine the current Master Bedroom and the Study Room, so the Master Bedroom will be 2 big rooms combined because we will be having a Walk-in Wardrobe in this big room. Inside this big room will be a WIW, a King size bed and our Study Area... All rooms will be overlayed with laminate flooring. hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 (edited) Pre-Reno Photos (Guest Room) View from Guest Room The Guest Room or Recreation Room or Miscellaneous Room will be untouched. Initially, we wanted to create a new entrance to the Common Toilet which is just beside it (See Floor Plan), so that there will be easy access to the toilet from this room which is a plus point (sort of like a attached toilet) However, HDB did not approve the proposal because there is a ventilation pipe blocking the proposed entrance area and HDB does not allowed us to "chop" away or erect a kreb to cover the pipe. So no choice, see it as saving some money... Edited March 16, 2010 by hongwen37
hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 Pre-Reno Photos (The Loo) Master Toilet The toilets are too small, a problem with the old toilet designs. They are too small to even fit a proper shower screen and yet still have the basin and toilet bowl together in the toilet. So, we have to shift the basin vanity out of the Master Toilet since we will be doing up a shower screen. The Master Toilet will, therefore be sort of extended and enlarged. We will be building (not we literally, but the contractors) a glass panel and swinging glass door at the extended Master Toilet area. Of course, we are rather shy people, so we will be having the glass panels frosted so people cannot see anyone of us showering or doing our business. (Haa.. I personally feel that it is rather weird to see anyone (including spouses) ****ting or peeing, with those "open concept" toilets... We will be installing storage water heater because we want to have nice shower head. haa. Common Toilet Nothing much will be done for the Common Toilet, following the disappointment of not being able to create the entrance from the Guest Room to this toilet... We feel that we will not be using this toilet to shower, therefore no shower screen is needed.

hongwen37 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2010 Proposed 2D Layout This was the initial layout proposed by ID... Things we wanted to change: - The Kitchen cabinet to be a "C" shape, so that there will be more storage since we are not doing top cabinets and we hacked off our storeroom - The fridge and washer to be relocated to the same side as the Kitchen cabinet - The Master Toilet vanity to be shifted out into the Walk-in Wardrobe - More wardrobes in the Walk-in Wardrobe - The bed and the study area in the Master Bedroom to switch places This is the modified layout done by me, using the original layout given by the ID...... There will still be changes made to this layout though, as days go by...
